Just found out I am halfway towards qualifying for the Area Festivals in October, I just need one more affiliated test sheet at 59% or over. I think I would like to go for it, it will be great experience for us both but just wondered if anyone else had been/was going? We will (touch wood) do the one at Sheepgate in Lincoln.

Alison did the area festival a couple of years ago at novice level. They are really good fun and because peeps that have qualified for the regionals can't enter you are not having to compete against the really top horses / riders.
She made it through to the final which was a great day out.

PS liked the second photo of fly from the dressage. Might have to have a lil chat about the first one though ;)

Well I haven't got all day but a brief synopsis.
Pic 1
Above the bit
Tense around withers
Shortening top line neck muscles
Shoulders restricted
Hollow in back
Trailing quarters

Pic 2
On the verticle
Stretching topline neck muscles
More lift to back
Quaters engauged

Did I get it right Miss?
Being serious for a minute. Pic one has a look of tension about it wher as Pic 2 appears a lot more relaxed due to points above

Tis amazing how consistently you ride. Those 2 pics look identical and I dont like either. Too much resistence in the mouth and hollow short stride.
Legs me dear, use those legs with inside flection to consistent outside contact.

i should be at patchetts on september 10th for the novice if I can get some transport. i have been for the last 2 years. First year my wonderful Welshie managed to get placed and got to go in the posh line-up.

this is him next to a big warmblood - the whole line-up was full of big bay warmbloods and there was my chappie stuck in the middle!

I'm not doing the area festival this year with the girls as the finals are likely to be very close to Peri's due date (so she would not be going anyway). Don't feel it is fair to do a class and possibly do someone out of qualifying when I have no intention of going.

I've decided to try and qualify Tavia for the winter semi's at elementary and medium. I had stopped doing elementaries but she stil has points left so might as well have a go. She hasn't a hope in h*ll of getting through to the Nationals - she is very sweet, but realistically she is not going to beat the pro's and their big flashy WBs in the open sections - but I'm trying to qualify for the music classes at the semi's so might as well make the trip worthwhile.

good luck lgd, the music one sounds really fun,..maybe one day.

PS on your advice I have decided to affiliate, sending papers off today, both me and my horse. Decided to bite the bullet. Its £100 which is a lot of money but then I went into town on Friday and spent £40 on a jumper, £13 on wedding cards (!!!), £30 on clothes for the kids and then thought actually in the scale of things £100 is not actually that much.

So booked into do a test on 19th Aug to *hopefully* get my 2nd test required for the areas.

Have had to pick another name for him as both High Flyer and High Flyer II are in use, so what do you think to...

High Flyer Esquire? ;)

Well done for taking the plunge.

Another way of keeping his name would be to prefix it with 'The' or just keep it and add a number. i certainly know of horses with V and VI after the main name.

I'm assuming High Flyer is his passport/registered name?

Could also swap round a bit 'Fly Higher'

Not a problem for me with the girls (who else would want names like Lucky Miss Perrier and Coedllyfn Octavia  )

damn i really like Fly Higher! No I already sent the stuff off! I think I will phone them tomorrow and ask them to change it :D

Yes High Flyer is his passport name and registered name. I spent ages writing stuff down, and in the end the best I could come up with was that or Tala's High Flyer which is his dams name but no, Fly Higher is the one!

btw how on earth did you end up with Tavia's name?

Coedllyfn is the stud prefix - translates as Evenwood (actually Wood-Even if you are being really literal).

Gets even more confusing 'cos Gwyneth's Mum registered her as a foal as Coedllyfn Olivia and then called her Octavia. She died and Gwyneth inherited the horses and didn't know that T had been registered. I bought her and registered her as Octavia, then the other passport was found - easy to spot as she had very distinctive white markings as a baby. I've eventually had them combined so she has her parentage testing on her passport with the 'Octavia' (much nicer than Olivia!).

Peri's was much more straightforward - Lucky is the stud prefix, the Miss came from her dam line (filly's got Miss, colts got 'sir' and her breeder 'claimed' he was drinking Perrier water when she was born - we've always said it was 'cos you couldn't call a filly 'Tetley's Best Bitter' :D

i certainly didn't have problems getting Marlais Gwanwyn registered! I have to tell all the commentators how to pronounce it!

We have got 19 points left in Novice so I'm going to try and qualify for the Novice winter semi's and the Novice music again. Might manage the music if we're lucky, but not holding out too much hope for 2 novice wins over 65% - 63% was a lot more achievable!

Bugger! BD want £30 to change the name even though they probably havent even opened the envelope yet!

Ah well 'Tala's High Flyer' it is then...
