I am currently trying a couple of new bits in my horses's mouth the now. One is a myler wide barrel comfort snaffle with loose rings. I am wondering what the score lines are for, at the edges of the bit, is this to see how much should be on the outside of the mouth.

To put that on here, the bit your going to use is going to put some pressure on the bars of the mouth, but most of the pressure will be on the tongue. Pressure can also be applied more to the tongue, the curb area, the palate, and the poll. Level one bit.

I've started to use a level 1 Myler having attended a Myler Bit Clinic, and to be honest I really dont know what the score lines are for, unfortunately me and my horse were used as the demonstration so I missed some of the talking whilst I was trying the bit out, but she went so well in it that I bought it.

are the score lines inlayed with a different metal ? You get this sometimes, where there are copper lines inlayed as it is supposed to help the horse salivate and hence the mouth is moister and not "dry"...

Yeah, Fly's Myler has score lines and I'm pretty sure they're copper. Fly goes so much better in this bit than the one he had before (even though I can't remember exactly what it was... it was too long ago :o)

My horse came with a myler (with rollers and hooks and the copper inlay things) personally not such a fan, I use it for jumping and to be honset he's not that great in it. He's happier in hes KK snaffle, which I would recomend :)

Mylers dont suit all horses, but those that they do suit go much better in them than in other bits, though I have to say the KK bits are lovely too :)

The 'score' lines are copper inlays. Some horses like copper others don't.
