mehitabels site explains correct dress really well, its in her profile :) although in the M&M classes i've competed in no-one seems to follow correct turnout

Well there are people who show in M&M and dont wear the correct gear, but thats up to them. A good judge will take into account overall presentation when judging a class so good for rider05 for making sure she has the correct gear!

It doesnt necessarily need to be expensive, just correct!

Any colour tie is fine an long as its subtle. Just avoid white, black and pony club or school ties.

If you are doing a ridden class, it is correct to wear long boots on a large breed m&m (ie Connie, new forest, welsh c&d, dales, fell and highland), and short boots on small breeds (all the others). If you are doing inhand, trousers with sensible shoes/joddie boots are most correct, but going in your normal riding gear is fine for local shows.

i wear a green tweed hacking jacket (plain collor velvet is considered amaturish)subtle yellow jodphurs, brown jodhpur boots (if you are an adult you can wear long black boots and breeches but remember garter straps)cream shirt and a wine coloured red tie with cream spots. i like to puff the tie out and fasten with a plain gold bar tie pin but its up to you.waistcoats are nice but make sure you don`t look cluttered around your neck eg dont wear waistcoat and tie pin
hope this helps you ! good luck
