Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good equine massage course in the south of england?
I want an accessable way to learn equine anatomy and movement with a more practical approach!

Courses are run at writtle college but they get pretty full very quickly - you won't get on a course now until next year. Did mine a year ago - it's excellent :)

I'm doing mine with ICAT and it's a really good course - my vet was impressed with the syllabus and all the assignments and case studies I've had to do. The diploma course takes about 15 months to 2 years, but there are weekend introductory workshops for owners too. Courses are held in Devon.

I tried to go on the same course as Murphs and Alibi, but couldn't get the time off work, so did this one instead. I have enjoyed it so much I will probably do the Shiatsu diploma next year (and I'm starting a human sports massage course in September!).

Not that it's any help to you but I'm doing one next weekend yippee! :) really looking forward to it as it's with a really good physio that I've known for years and recommended to many friends (much to their relief as they'd often run out of vets, chiros, accupuncturists to help and Rachel usually spots the problem in one visit)

Good luck with whichever course you choose! I did the Equissage course here in the US, in Virginia this May and I learned so much. It was only one week but you learned a routine you can use and learned a lot about anatomy. We worked with the horses every day, after a session in the classroom. It's a tough course but well worth it, a great start to the career. I'd like to take more anatomy classes now, we only covered about 25 muscles and really no bones, I think you need the bones to know where the muscles are. My horse is much more relaxed, less spooky, generally calmer now that she gets regular massage. Let us know how you make out!

Thanks everyone, your help has been invluable.
I'm currently looking into all sorts of options, it seems you need a degree to figure this education thing out!
Murph, the writtle modular seems a good option, I've sent off for a perspectus so even if I can't get on it this year, I'll know abot it for next year. I also like the look of the icat (can't remember the name of the course, its late and I'm tired!!) I like the idea of having a farrier and saddler involved with the course, good one Gingerthing!
Both Sassafras and virtuallyhorses approach sounds interesting, drop me a line and let me know how your getting on.
