Hello.
In my lesson the other day we were doing bounce grids, and they were quite tricky! Does anybody have any tips for how to ride them properly? Also, are you supposed to sit between each jump or stay in jumping position throughout the grid?
All advice much appreciated! :D

One thing that I kept getting shouted at to do at pony club was sit up! I figured out why at college on my own horse, lol.

You should sit up between because if they stop at the second you are a goner!

You wont sit up fully as though you were riding a normal couple of strides but try and push yourself back up when the forelegs land then forward again when you feel them come up.

It takes a few try'so get the feel right and you will feel a bit strange but you will get it. It is easier i think on a bigger jump than small hop jump.

I enjoy doing bounces and grids but it doesn't stop me from getting nervous when I'm faced with one

The best thing that it taught me was NOT to fold too much! I was always folding like I was doing Puissance when I first started back jumping and broke my ribs from overdoing it and going over the jump before the hoss! Grids/bounces helped to make me sit up and RELEASE rather than just throwing myself up the neck.

It's a good idea to practise going between 3-point, light seat and 2-point on the flat so that you can do it smoothly and quickly and without having to think about it.

Good luck, it's a great exercise for the horse and the rider.

Thanks for clearing that up! It was great fun but its going to take me a couple of go's to get the hang of it!
