My new yard seems to have really changed my attitude to riding.
Since last October I've just got more and more nervous. There've been a catalogue of little incidents out hacking and then in March Ziz bolted in the school, I came off and cracked my ribs. Then our tack was stolen, and Ziz's back went. Since then I've been a right nervous nellie and even getting on board has been a real challenge. Hacking's been a no, no too. I've spent a lot of time doing groundwork and taking Ziz for walks in hand and also not put any pressure on myself. I'm always my hardest critic but I've llearnt to let up on myself a bit. I was getting worried that I was so nervous - why would I keep a horse I couldn't ride ?
Moved to new yard a few months ago, have been riding in the school with BP on, have walked round the fields now a couple of times with other liveries with BP on and I'm riding almost every night again. Got on Tuesday night and schooled without my BP on, and cantered with no problems too !! Then Saturday morning went for a walk with YO and another livery around the field and felt really relaxed so Sunday went for a walk without my BP - no nerves at all, even when we passed the scary horse eating bath that's in one of the fields. I had thought I'd never be able to ride without my BP on again, I was such a bag of nerves.
Somehow Sunday found myself agreeing to go to Camber Sands with some of the liveries and YO on Mon 22 August - never ridden on a beach before and don't know how Zizzi will react but I'm really looking forward to it. Even though we're leaving the yard about about 4am as have to be off the beach by 8am.
I can't believe that only weeks after I thought I'd totally lost my nerve again I'm planning this. Riding's fun again, my horse is making me laugh rather than making me sick !! It's great. :D :D :D
