I have a couple of horse friends that were too scared to ride their horses outside. I am not talking down the road , I mean in an fenced outdoor arena.
So myself and another barn buddie decided to help them out.. one was going out of town this weekend so we could not go to her property this weekend , but I will ,,,before snow flys..but the other was going to ride early on Saturday..so we got ourselves 2 lawn chairs and coffee and headed out the barn of one of our Nervious Nellie friends. She was riding in the indoor arena when we got their at 8am Saturday. We moved her outside .
We stayed there for over an hour watching her ride.. giving her a few pointers. She did great and so did her horse.
She was worried that with the horses in the pasture right by the outdoor that if they took off playing that she would lose control of him . So we encouraged the other horse to play around a bit.. and he was fine. I have notice this with both of my friends that have their horses at home. They have no " barn buddies " around when they ride so they don't push themselves to try anything out side their comfort zone. The friend that was gone for the weekend , trailers her horse to a trainer 3 x's per week, so she is getting plenty of lesson time ,,but will not practice on him at home . Its not that there is no one around ,, there is plenty of action at both places but their is no one to ride with.
I was wondering if others that have their horse at home have this problem and what do you do to help yourself relax and ride . The only sugguestions I could give was to bring a little radio with them and play that while they ride.
