my instructor has suggested i work on grids etc between lessons.problem is, i dont know how to work out how many of my strides equals how many of his between the jumps (ie how much space i need to put between jumps). yes i know i should ask her but im working hard this week and im not going to see her for a while, and dont have a lesson for 2 weeks or so due to this.
so was wondering if you guys could help me. is there a relative rule as to proportions? and how many strides are they meant to take between jumps? or does that depend how many you want them to? is it best to find someone to help who knows what they are doing, as trial and error doesnt seem advisable?
all this for a 12hh pony :)

Hi there. Its been a while since i'm out of ponies. But for a horse 1 of my strides will be about 3ft. and a normal horse's stride will be between 9-12 foot. ie 3-4 paces. Sorry I coldn't be much more help. :)

Lots of clever pony riders on here, so you'll get your answer im sure. :)

I ride a large pony, and her stride covers like 10ft? In between about 2'6 fences. It's suppose to cover 12ft I think. Yours would be a bit smaller since mine is about 14hh tho. Ask your instructor, or a local show holder.
