Have just bought a new forest pony, woo-hoo!
Aim is to sort out her issues, expose her to as much as i can and ideally get someone (i'm too old :( ) to take her to pony club camp!
Anyway, she's a pure bred new forest, registered with papers (i originally thought she was a cross, but pleasantly surprised to find out she is a pure bred)
So, i thought i'd do some local showing with her next year.... thing is her mane lies in the "wrong" side at the moment, will we get marked down for this? should i re-train mane, ie grow long, re-pull and hood her up for the winter in vain attempt to get it to lay on correct side?
Opinions appreciated....

on the NF website they say not to worry too much, but we do train our manes at the stud i work at. it just is a nicer picture.

Q. Does it matter which side the mane falls? Our young mare has a heavy mane falling very neatly and consistently to the near side. She has a very nice neck with good muscle. Should I be plaiting her mane loosely and training it over to the off side? I can’t seem to find out from any of the books.

A. From a Senior M&M Panel Judge -"Personally I don't take a blind bit of notice which side the mane falls providing it is neat and tidy, if I have one to produce which has the mane the "wrong" side I leave it, as it is a devilish job to get it to go over and it never ever looks as good."

ah, brilliant, thankyou.... was having nightmares of thinking how to re-train it... it's quite thick and established, so to speak! will just give her a spring clean and smarten up next spring before we show into next years season.... Thanks, had visions of me at 3am on the morning of a show, hair straighteners and industrial strength glue, hairspray and gel at the ready!

of course! she's due to come and live with me next week, she's a bit of a ragamuffin at the moment, and cheeky too, but piccies will follow! :D

no idea, will find out at weekend when i get her passport and papers, her stable name is Polly... she's chestnut, 8 years old and 13.3hh..

i just bought her on a whim, and the fact that she has potential (is brilliant little jumper) but the fact that's she's a pure bred is a bonus....

will post details of her breeding next week, would love to know what you think of her, and her breeding lines, complete novice to all natives.... currently own an unregistered anglo arab...

thanks!

HELLO!
My mare has arrived, was duped by hr age as have bought a 14 year old, so she could be going back, as idea was to bring on, have fun then sell or breed...

but any info you can give me on her breeding would be fab, ie, is she any good?

SADIE II is her name

CLAYHILL NIGHTHAWK is her sire.

RIDLEY ROSE-BAY is her dam.

GREENWOOD MINSTREL is her grandad as is MEADOW MONARCH

RIDLEY ROCKROSE is her grandma as is CLAYHILL RAINDROP.

R AND J STRIDE of Hants bred her.

Foaled 1991

Any info much appreciated, as am in a predicament as to whether to send her back, or work on her and sell her on.

I bought her for £900 including all tack and rugs....

Opinions appreciated.

Please do not shoot me! have only had this little mare since Sunday and adore her already, wherever she goes or stays she'll have a good home that i can guarantee... She was sold to me as an 8-11 year old, so am feeling a little miffed, and plus i only got her papers and passport tonight, also she is on trial for two weks so no money transfer has taken plac yet!!!!
