Wahoo! What a great ride I had tonight. It was only my second 'solo' ride on the horse I am leasing. The first solo ride was ok, but he learned that if he didn't want to do something, I wasn't going to push him....smart horse!
I thought it was going to be a problem...and sure enough, in our normal lesson, he refused the same things... we got through it each time, but he fussed about it each time....
Well, since there were other people around in the barn, I decided to take the crop with me and I wasn't going to take no for an answer. And the first time he refused, I tapped him behind my leg and he got the message that I meant it. And from then on, I had a very cooperative horse!! Wahoo! He did everything I asked without asking twice. It was just awesome.
At one point we were walking and there was a loud noise in the barn...he spooked a little...did what I'd call a 'mini bolt' where he just kinda took off straight ahead...and I didn't lose my balance at all. Just sat it out and he stopped shortly thereafter. What a good boy...even when he spooks (rarely), he doesn't do anything to try to unseat me....and it was a good confidence builder I think for both of us. For him, that I didn't get scared and tense up (so gave him confidence)....for me, that I could sit it out without even being scared.
It was really awesome!! He got lots of scratches, carrots, and apples tonight!!
