Well, second lesson was yesterday, and had a good time (although not such a laugh as last time - probably 'cos it was an adult class so everyone else was taking it more seriously! :) )

I got put on a lovely c16hh dapple grey hunter/eventer called Merlin - I'm guessing IDxTB because he had a noticeable wither but wasn't a complete skinny minny. Gorgeous he was - really forward going with lots of power in the back end. The only problem then was trying to sit to trot! Bouncey, bouncey, bouncey... :D (Now I realise why I felt so great riding Sophie the cob last week, she was like a rocking horse in comparison!)

My only problem was getting the lovely Merlin to slow down. I didn't want to haul on his mouth, but trying to stop him climbing up the back of the horse in front was a nightmare! So we did lots of small circles yesterday ;)

In the meantime, I've sent off my cheque for BHS Stage1, so fingers crossed I've got a place. Next lesson is on Monday, then back to regular instructor on Friday. I've got to get this canter lark sorted out! :D

Hi wobblydeb

Always interested in good riding in the NE, which stables have you gone to, do they do any shows etc? etc?

Hope you don't mind me asking

Hi Anne

No probs - the stables are Houghton Equestrian at Heddon-on-the-Wall. Very professionally run, but really friendly with it :) They've got a variety of instructors and some really nice ponies & horses. Not sure what shows they do, if any. I am back there this evening, so I will ask :)

I think I told you about my usual instructor Henri Plag didn't I? She is brilliant, so I'm also continuing with my private lessons with her when she is available. Private lessons have made a world of difference in getting me to a point where I feel like I can cope with group lessons! :D

Thanks for this Deb, their website looks good so I think I will go and check them out. I still love it at Ivesley and Cait really enjoys their shows but its always worth knowing where there is another good school. The horses look lovely.
Your private instructor sounds great, and she has such a good reputation.

Hello, it's good to hear Henri recommended. I used to take a previous pony to her for lessons and am just about to get in touch and start again with Erry.

Its just a shame that it is so far to travel though as it takes half a day to do the whole thing.

However I do know that at the time she made the most difference to my riding and partnership of anyone ever. Lets hope she is able to perform wonders and miracles again as we surely need it!

glad you had a good lesson and are doing your BHS Stage 1. Its great to hear people who want to learn about horses before any future purchases may be made. If it all that is. very responsible!! Good luck
