IT was great to find your message boards here !
I have been working for a really good Dressage barn just down the road for a few months now, and love every second that im there.
ALso have been really fortunate to have an awesome working relationship with our barn manager/head trainer,.who is holding the door open to further
opportunity...something i don't take for granted...as she's one of the best in the area !
ALso am working on my riding,.having been out of the saddle for about 5 yrs
Im taking some basic at another local barn where i am going right down to the foundation and seeing whats there in my riding ,..so i can work on that and be up to a confidence level to eventually step up into dressage.
My Planned area in horses was to be Formal driving and CDE,.and still is where i want to go in what i want to do for other people and horses,..eg training and teaching.,oneday at my own barn.
But its a hard toss up of what i want more,.as it looks like I just might be wanting to compete in the dressage ring as well,.as I know dressage will be my saddle sport.
ITs just great to have found my sport and my career at this time!
Life is amazing..eh

Great to meet everyone here!,..and (any advice to a guy looking to take on dressage??)

thanks everyone

Hi, welcome to NR, always nice to see more guys on here ;)
You're very lucky with these opportunities, I would say work hard and keep an open mind about what you eventually want to do as every discipline has pros and cons... dressage *is* very beautiful to watch though :)
Good luck for the future!

Thanks,. i appreciate it,..
Although I do sometimes feel like the only guy around my age in the sport
A buddy of mine is training to be a dressage trainer in wisconsin, and
another is allready a formal driving trainer in Northern Ontario.
But i agree,..more guys are needed in the sport.especially in the intermediate
levels..where it really thins out.

Thanks for the best wishes..."Im just lovin every min of it..."

For a start you're going to have to look out for the hoards of adoring girls :) You'll probably get quite a fan club!

Sorry ... should have said 'hi and welcome' first really, shouldn't I?

Dressage is my favourite discipline too and I'm hoping to eventually to do dressage with my horse (unfortunately my horse appears to want to be an eventer!). I enjoy jumping and a bit of cross country but I'll never be jumping great heights, I've got too much to lose (money if I don't work for example) plus as I've got older I've come to appreciate dressage more. I no longer think of it as something that 'old people and people who are too chicken to jump' do (where's the embarrassed smilie?). I rode at a dressage yard for a couple of years and really got to appreciate it.

Good luck, enjoy and have a lot of fun along the way :)

Have to agree with bay mare!! I only know a handful of guys who ride, and not counting the ones under ten or over sixty, i only know one (he's 15).
I think its great you're interested in dressage :) I love dressage but unfortunately my horse doesn't, he puts up with it but he really only lives for jumping.
Good luck!!

thanks Eli-Jay...
I think more guys would find they like Dressage ...if they were to try.
Having also played other sports of strategy, both team and individual,i find Dressage facinating and challenging, and so admire both guys and women that are able to perform as one with the horse and just be themselves in the heat of Competition.
They are the truely the champions,.the ones that make it look so easy,.and also at the same time sincerly look like they are enjoying themselves.
Gives me goosebumps...lol
If only all us guys could only ride as good as Steffan Peters out there..!!!

Hi
I'm new to NR 2 and i agree with you, in fact i think more guys would enjoy riding in general if they were to give it a try. Nice to know there are some guys out there with a horsey ambition they are willing to try. I'm sure you're doing a great job at the Dressage barn 2.
Sorry i can't give you any advice tho, i've never done dressage but i'm thinking of giving it a go. i'm sure you'll make another Carl Hester one day!
Good luck :)
