I have been speaking to Helen from Goldfinch. She was really helpful regarding my stirrups and numnah but she also told me why the freeform became!

This is the email she sent me:

The Freeform is just a natural progression from the Fitform. There are only 3 main differences between the two:

Injection moulding – this is the major difference as it allows the use of a denser foam and the contours of the saddle to be achieved without having to stitch into shape. It also means uniformity and constant symmetry which is a new standard in the saddling industry although it only really applies to saddle trees.
The Seat – more sizes and what gives the Freeform a much more conventional appearance over the Fitform.
No pommel or cantle blocks – with a flexible aluminium wither plate incorporated into the seat, means the Freeform is totally flexible both laterally and medially.

The Freeform still has the “Y” system girth of the Fitform, the base of the Classic is still the same size and shape as the Fitform and most of the same materials remain, stirrup attachment is still the same apart from the fact it is adjustable position wise.

There was nothing wrong with the Fitform and we were sorry to lose it altogether. I think the original intention was to keep both saddles to give people the choice but unfortunately, due to politics and the fact that the saddle was and is still being copied; the Fitform had to be totally replaced by the Freeform. The fact that the Freeform is injection moulded makes it an expensive prospect for copying – usually anyone who copies a product wants to do it on the cheap and often via India or China.

Are you the young lady who has a diddi pad ( saw this somewhere on another board ) ? If so is this not a success ? Very nosy I know but am hoping to get a treeless next year so have a real interest in these saddles.

Hi Tubby, I have the Diddi Pad. It's a fabulous, gorgeous saddle, but not right for Dolly. Dolly has huge shoulders, and a really big stride. Because the saddle has full panels, Dolly pushes it backwards when she moves.

Oh dear that is a shame, you were so thrilled with it when it arrived . Do let us know about the Fitform, I think of you as treeles tryer & am hoping to be able to put your input to good use.

I do still adore it, but am just not using it at the moment. :) Will definitely post my thoughts on the Freeform when I get to play with one :)

After reviewing my treeless saddle options in the US, I have made a firm (I hope) decision to get a Freeform treeless saddle (once I save the funds). The alternative horse site was helpful in viewing different treeless saddles. When I do get one, I will be sure to post pictures of it all as well as my opinion. I had also considered the Sensation pad, but really have not seen much feedback on it. What I did find was split 50/50 (one liked it a lot, another hated it!).

If it is anywhere near as nice as the Fitform, you will love it! :D

I am saving (forever saving for something! lol! ;) ) for a "posh" saddle and at the moment I am lookng at the Freeform and the Fhoenix!

The reason I am going for the Freeform is that I can not get a Fhoenix in the US.

I bought a Freeform a little more than a month ago and I love it! I have tried it on a few different horses of different shapes and sizes and it has been wonderful on all of them. I use the Granduer pad and that helps a lot with spine clearance.

The seat does run a bit small though, so keep that in mind if you order.

Just wanted to put in a good word for the Freeform!
