Well i have been competing in local showing a little bit but i havent done it now since like last august. Well im going in a qualifier for our local show for the end of season show and all my friends have qualified so i really want to try and qualify as well in Best turned out. But they all have small show ponys and i need some questions answering. Well first off he is a 15.2hh Belgium warmblood so hes not a showing horse anyway but well i am getting a double bridle as they are cheap in my local tack shop and really nice so i thought i will buy one but because he is a gelding and a horse can i use one of the fancy browbands on him or do i use a plain one. And what do i wear because all my friends have the little ponys so they have the hair ribbons and matching ties and broaches but because im on a horse what do i have to wear.

Also i have got long boots but they are the field boots with the laces on the front am i better to wear short boots and joddy clips or my long boots ?

what class are you doing in the qualifer, and what are you trying to qualify for? what tack you use and what you wear depends on that. also how old are you? that affects what boots you wear.

also, you should ride in a snaffle unless you and the horse are educated in wearing a double ridle - there's an awful lot more to it than just holding an extra set of reins.

unless you are going to puk,or anything like that i suppose it does not matter what you were if its only a fun show. were what you normally do and how old is the horse as you dnt want a pallam or anything to strong in a younster mouth.

for tack and turnout you should wear a navy jacket and hat with long boots if you are on a horse if its only local laces dont matter and if you feel that your horse would go better in a double then put him in one it does make horses look smater you should only but a cloured browbband on if it suits your horse but overall so long as everything is immaculate and perfectly clean then it shouldnt rreally matter what you are wearning but normaly blue javkets are worn in t&t good luck! :D

You should turn out for the type of horse you have. You said your horse isn't really a show type, but is he more of a hunter or more of a riding horse, or a hack? Hunters are chunky with lots of bone and substance, hacks are usually thoroughbred/anglo types with floats movement and riding horses are somewhere in the middle (a VERY rough guide!)

Yours sounds like a riding horse or hunter, for hunters you should wear a tweed jacket, blue hat, brown gloves long boots and a plain browband. If he is a riding horse you should wear the same, but should have a fancy browband - you can also wear a blue jacket, although it is less correct at higher levels. Hunters should have a plain, flat leather bridle, riding horses may have a rolled or flat noseband.

The most important thing is to be immaculately clean with good plaits and a pulled (or plaited) tail.
