Apart from the usual carrots and apples, does anyone know what other fruit and veg are safe to feed to horses?

I've been told that potatoes and their peelings don't do them much good, and I've started giving swede/turnip rather than apples (they can be quite rich), but apart from that I think you can give them virtually anything. Our YO gives us all the cuttings from her Sunday dinner (broccoli, cauliflower, etc), and being a horsey person herself I'm sure she wouldn't do that if it were going to do them any harm!

I've known horses to eat oranges but personally I wouldn't as I'd be concerned about the acid in them. Turnips, carrots, apples and lettace there was a thread on here not so long ago about feeding horses bananas!

We give ours the peelings from sunday dinner too. I gave Treasure a piece of banana the other day and he liked it.
Bella and Treasure won't eat runner bean peelings, but Cobber and Magic will. I think it depends on the fusiness of the horse!

Bananas are good for putting on weight on a horse! Silver hates them though so I give the ends to the dog instead!
He loves pears, apples, carrots, turnips.
There's also swedes, parsnips, cabbage(?), broccoli etc. There is general rule for fruits that anything containing a stone isn't too good for them but not sure how reliable this is. I avoid the acidic fruits as well.
Wonder if they could eat things like watermelon and melon? hmm...

I feed Perrie, apples, carrots, turnip, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower.
She loves melon but i do take the seeds out first.
She absolutely hates banana.
She just spits them out.
