Hey Everyone-
Just wanted to say that I am new to the message boards and I am looking for a show barn (hunter/jumper) around the Charlotte, North Carolina area. I just moved here and I am looking to start training again. I took about 2 years off while living in Charleston, SC to start my career but now that I'm settled I would love to start to ride again and eventually find another horse. I sold mine when I moved down south :(

But I've been riding since 4 yrs old (I'm 26 now) and I have competed mostly in the A circuit- Lake Placid, Florida Circuit, Hamptons, Garden State, HITS, and so on. Competed in Junior Equitation and was starting Prelim Jumpers before I moved down to SC. I also trained some of the juniors and pony riders at my barn in NY before I went to college.

Any help would be great! Thanks!

Cara

Welcome to the board, Cara.

If you haven't already, you might post this question on the Hunter/Jumper section at www.chronicleforums.com

NR is a very friendly site and I'm sure you'll be warmly welcomed by all, but the membership is pretty widely dispersed throughout the globe, so there may or may not be someone around who knows your area well enough to recommend a good barn.

In any case, best of lucking in finding a good trainer and getting back into things. Hopefully, we'll see you around on the board.

Hi Carad, and welcome.

I suggest you contact the North Carolina Hunter Jumper Association. I would imagine they have a list of members who could steer you in the right direction.

Who did you train with on Florida's winter circuit? I live down here and the Winter Equestrian Festival is my local show.

Are you in Charlotte now? If you go to the country store on 521 or the tack exchange in Waxhaw, they have a free booklet called the Union County Horsemen's Directory and it lists barns in the area. I have been here 3 years and have ridden at a few of them. I haven't found my dream barn yet but I can give you some advice. Let me know what your must haves are:
indoor arena
trails
allowed to jump on own outside of lessons
location

and i can help you with choices. Then you can go out and do an evaluation lesson at some of the barns and pick one.
