you should alwyas have riding hats fitted, so ordering one without a reputable fitter helping you try it is not a good idea.

anything you buy new will be up to the latest standard anyway.
You should have it fitted tho - you can't really order one unless you had it fitted and are buying exactly the same thing.

I've just brought a new hat on Friday it's by Just Togs and called Hc or something similiar?
Anyway, ditto the others as you should always have it proffessionally fitted. I tried on a whole load of hats - although oddly enough they all fitted me really well apparently - before settling on the one I personally liked the most. But, especially if you're new to riding - a proffessionally fitted hat is the most important piece of equipment you can buy as you only get one head and it needs protecting.

I was talking to my riding instructor and she did a couple of lessons several weeks ago and she could not beleive that people had out of date hats and one even was broken and still being used.
Having also known several people who have had had bad falls and their hats have saved them having severe head injurys, which could have resulted them in being paralysed and in a wheelchair. They were only too very grateful to have hats that saved them major injury etc.

Ok...thnk u. We(me and my dad) ordered it before my dad mentioned that the saddlery was quite close. We didn't know they did them untill we went down to purchase boots and jodhpurs. Thank you for the info though I will get my hat fitted next time I have one. :)

Really?? I had no idea - I know there are those Beagler ones with no chin strap which (obviously) aren't up to any standard.
I always get PAS015 approved ones myself that seems to be the most rigourous testing.

I had to buy a new hat as my old one didn't meet the new safety standards! (shows how long I've been out of the saddle! :D )
They asked to see my hat at my riding school when I started there and said I wouldn't be covered under their insurance if I wore it.
Got a new one though and got them to check it was all kosher. So if in any doubt, get your riding school to take a look at it!

I've just bought one today! :D
BSEN1384 1997
Professionally fitted by a lovely lady who had me shaking my head while she held my shoulders and everything! :P
Also bought my daughter some pink jod's and long boots.. she's a happy bunny and the lady was chuffed at the sale for a 'slow' wednesday afternoon! We home educate so make the most of shops being quiet! hehe
Can't wait for my ride on sunday. ;)

Yes, that's one of the current British standards.

I keep seeing adverts for "Lightweight hats" but they never state the weight :( What's the lightest safest hat?

If in England the hat should be fine if it has the BKM (british kite mark)
I can describe it as a heart shaped symbol, with what looks like a kite also. Lol
