Lots of horses have muscle wastage, and it can be for lots of reasons. It's not related to condition or how much weigth a horse is carrying at all. If a horse has a badly fitting saddle, for example, that can cause the muscle to waste, because using it hurts - so the horse doesn't, and instead compensates by using other muscles.
In a horse that's been out of work for a long time you sometimes see it even where there's nothing very much wrong, if they just haven't been using themselves properly (especially if turnout is limited) or if a horse is ridden badly it can happen. One of my mares was ridden for years with her nose in the air and while she built up all the muscle under her neck, the muscle along the top wasted.
It can happen where there's an injury too - Dot had failry serious muscle wastage along her neck and back after she was hurt, where she wasn't using those muscles properly.
On it's own, it doesn't really mean much - you'd need to know why there was wastage to make much sense of it. :)

oh rachel, i'm so sorry to hear that. i've been thinking about willow and wondered how she was. i don't know much about muscle wastage, apart from that it can occur at injury sites or if the muscles aren't used in years.

Oh my god Rach! :(
I'm soo sorry about Willow.
She was very lucky to have you as her owner, even at the end.
Now,she's probably running around in a big field of green grass with her friends.
She was really a good girl and you to had such a bond...which you will always have together.
I'm so sorry...

Hi Mantha!!
It has become apparent that Willow, the horse which it was claimed to have been PTS in the first post of this thread before it was edited, is in fact alive and well and currently for sale.
So to everyone who felt sorry and upset over this and offered their sympathy and condolences, you were being lied to by Rachel George - i can not understand how on earth someone would do that, sick and twisted goes nowhere near!!!

I'd like to say now that this kind of dishonesty will not be tolerated. Just because you cannot see the people you are talking to over the net does not mean you can take advantage of their emotions or lie to them.
Closing this now. I hope there may be some explanation, although I suspect that is unlikely to be the case.
