My cob murphy has had a bit of a chronic snotty nose now for a while.
I havent seen it in a morning for a good few months now, but this morning it was there again. Its sort of a whiteish discharge and normally in the left nostril, there can also be a bit of a large blob on the stable floor aswell.
We thought it was dust, so took out the small bit of shaving he had over his rubber matting, that worked for a while but it still came back.
We usually give them hay as the other 3 cant really have haylage (one is fat, one is laminetic and the other one gets the runs on it  ), but as we have run out of hay we bought 2 bags of horsehage (the roughage one- blue pack I think), he was on that last night, and he was out in a thunderstorm before he came in.

Hes up to date with all his injections and is worked regulary and doesnt show any signs (no coughing or anything), he is rugged up occasionally when he needs it in summer and he is rugged most of winter as he gets clipped. He is out all day and in at night, gets hay and some chaff with a tiny bit of sugarbeet, maybe a hanfull of nuts if hes had a hard work out. He hunted in febuary and does jumping and showing when out, and hacks and schools with a bit of jumping at home, other than the snotty nose he has no health problems, a few years ago my little one caught strangles, all the horses (apart from maddie as we didnt have her then) had anti-biotics and didnt have any symptoms apart from a little puffy around the jaw, but that went down.

Any ideas what it could be?

My mare did suffer with that, i would be slightly worried about the blob on the floor, if it got any worse i would be inclined to get a vet becasue that can normally get worse and cause problems.

I would soak his hay and try your best to remove any dust from there!
Maybe its the weather change or a change in something, has he been staying in more lately than usual.

Sometimes if they have a blockage in their throat they tend to get a snotty nose if something is tickling them.
If it gets worse use a bucket of dialoted Dettle and leave it outside his stable, everytime it snots up use a bit of cotten wool to wipe it anyway and then throw away the cotten wool, dont replace the cotten wool in the water incase it is an infection.

if at any point it is thick green call a vet dont hesiate things like strangles stem from this

Is the dishcage colourless when it isn't on his nose? Ebby has a constant runny nose, but that's just a sign of a healthy horse. It is colourless when I wipe it off her nose, though white when on her nose.

If it isn't colourless, then I'd turn him out as much as possible, and if it persists when the vet nexts visits the yard get him to see what he thinks?

Thanks. Its sort of a white colour. he gets lots of turn out but dont want to leave him out at night, weve tried to cut out all the dust and for a while it was working. It doesnt seem to effect him, and the pile on the floor is usually white aswell.
I know its not strangles as it isnt the same at all as when the little one had it last time.
