As you can probably see, my lovely pony is slightly overweight, and also croup-high. Would it be worth taking her to some local shows just for fun? Also could I show her in hand with just her normal bridle?
No shows on the cards yet though...

i think she'd pass as a large M&M :) i show my un-registered welsh D at local shows, just make sure you check the schedules carefully to make sure un-registered ponies can enter :) i use her normal riding bridle, but take off the reins and add a smart brass coupling and leather lead rein

I thought that if you're using a riding bridle you should actually use the reins that come with it. You should only use a leather lead on an in-hand bridle. That's how it works with WPCS showing, at least.

chev, thats just the way i do it, if its wrong then apologies but its never been picked up on in classes and we have been reasonably successful, with 3rd, 4th and 6th placings in large M&M classes. and i don't do WPCS classes, having an un-reg welshie ;) :p i don't see the point in shelling out loads for new gear when its all just for fun :)

to be correct, just use the riding bridle with her reins - then you don't even have to shell out for a lead.
it's not the kind of thing that will be commented on except in a turnout class, but it does look more professional to have either one type of bridle or the other, not a mixture.

you guys must have an awful lot of showing classes down south. up here its large M&M or small M&M ridden or inhand and thats it. no turnout classes. choice is very limited with unregistered horses

most shows here, even local ones, don't allow unregistered horses in the M&M, so have a variety of classes like BTO, prettiest mare, handsome gelding, best mane and tail, riding club horses, potential driving horse, etc to cater for the average non-showy animal.

We don't really see so many M&M classes where we are unless it's a bigger show - it's nearly all Welsh here  :D . Hence my answers to these things are always based on Welsh classes! Tis the hick in me... :D

i think all our local agri shows allow unreg M&M in them, but the local RC Trophy show doesn't, all horses have to be registered. chev, we never have specific welsh classes. i've been up against some very dubious looking supposed "welsh cobs" in past years

Lots of our little local shows actually have WPCS bronze medal status too :D . The vast majority are only open to registered ponies too (medal shows are always open only to WPCS registered animals).
Seeing non-Welsh ponies round here is a bit like seeing some rare bird.. we saw a NF mare at a sale last year, and there were loads of people gathered round as if she was something really exotic! Nobody had a clue whether she was a good NF or not... :D

Thats how I show my youngster. Being placed and never had a comment about it from the judge.

i agree with chev, round here there is alot for the welsh stock, my local ridersclub has classes just for them and they do welsh medal shows.
everyone told me i was mad buying a connemara to show in the heart of welsh breeding teritory!!!
my local riders club, will allow unregistgered m&M's in thier M&M class (but not their breed classes) if it is a typey M&M, ive known a welsh D xConnie win the M&M class there but he was gorgeous.
id take her just for the hell of it! you'll have a fuin day out no matter what your result! and if you use a normal bridle then normal reins as well.

I'd say give it a go........who cares as long as you both have fun and you'll pick up loads of tips and ideas along the way just by watching other people at first......doesn't matter if you don't get placed, just enjoy.......
I'm hoping to do some stuff next year with my oldey and I havn't gota clue as it's many years since I was involved in shows and such like.......
GO FOR IT!!!

Shes looks simply to Pep, overweight, croup high :p ! I just go local shows, I have the riding bridle, and I just use her reins, I cant realy be bothered with the lead. I have the posh lead rein, it may be jefferies like my bridle, but its all attached instead of having the separate coupling.
