View Full Version : Tail Chewing

My horse has been turned out with one other horse for about a year now. The other horse used to chew tails, but had managed to resist the temptation of my horses tail, until a few days ago. I now have a horse with only half a tail, and so we have had to split them up. Both are now miserable and sulking, and now I feel like a really mean owner, tearing him away from his buddy.
The tail had loads of cribbox on it when he chewed it, and we have tested them with all the various products on the market - no bite, anti bite etc, but none work. Does anyone have any tried and tested tips to stop tail chewing? I don't want a horse with no tail, but I don't want a miserable, sulking one either - help!

The best thing we have found that works is Cayenne Pepper. There is a spray on the market that you can buy or mix Cayenne Pepper with water (hot so it dissolves). It also works great sprayed on fence as well.
Be careful when you spray it that you don't get it in your eyes or mouth (spray in a well-ventilated area with no draft).
