Disengaging the Hind Quarters

Hi

I've heard that a good way of stopping your horse is to disengage the hindquarters. Any tips on putting this into practice as this is only something I've heard so I'm not very clear on it!

It is a good way of stopping the horse - a very good way - but there are a few things one has to do first!
