Brought her in tonight to ride, started grooming, and when I ran the brush over her right shoulder, my arm ended up in her teeth...not Dolly-behaviour so checked it out.
She has a lump on the front of her right shoulder, which is pretty swollen and fluidy...have kept her in overnight to see what it's like in the morning, but a friend from the yard reckons it could be an abcess (maybe a blackberry thorn got into her chest) which if so, I'll be on the phone to the vets tomorrow.

Poor baby! I wonder if those things expell by themselves? :(

Awww, I agree...POOR BABY! *sigh* my baby horsie KB is STILL healing. He was pushed through a gate by some of his buddys. Well, that's what we think...all I know is that all of the sudden, while my instructor was eating lunch he saw there were horses on his front lawn! lol...he was the only one with cuts, and because they are on just one side of his body, I figure he didn't break though...well he still has to grow some hair back, lol. Sorry I changed the subject....lol I REALLY hope your poor Dolly just has a little thorn or something, and she'll get better faster then you can say carrots! lol, good luck and keep us posted. ;)

Poor Dolly (and your poor arm!)
Might even just be a nasty sting - Tavia got stung badly a while back and had a huge swelling the size of a football just behind her shoulder, she was actually hopping lame and dragging a toe for 24 hours with it
Hope it's nothing nasty :crossfingers:

Hope Dolly's doing OK. Did you have to call the vet out in the end?

I rang the vet this morning as she was still ouchy. Got told they'd be there between 11 and 12, so left work at 10:30. 12:30 I rang them to find out where they were - was told they'd been called away to an emergency, so I cancelled. Turned her out in her little paddock on her own and she took off in gallop - so although she can't (won't) turn to the right, she has no problems with straight lines!
The lump's gone down a bit, but I've found another one in the girth area...will try poulticing tomorrow, but the one on her shoulder is going to be tricky!

DJ had some sort of small puncture wound when he was still boarded. Location and size seemed to indicate a kick with a nail sticking out or something similar.
I didn't take him to the vet and he only was 'off' for a day or so but now (over a year later) that area is still puffy- doesn't hurt him though.
Glad Dolly can still run! :P
