I know there was a similar thread but just a quick question. I gave Charlie and organge and he went mad for it! He loved it so much but I'm a bit weary if oranges are good for him as they are quite acidy what do you think?

I give Misty satsumas around Xmas time and she loves them. I'm sure they won't do any harm in moderation.

our donkeys love them - they adore oranges and satsumas, mind you they adore apples, pears, plums, melon, raspberries (including the bush) and most fruits....

I gave Murphy Orange juice at the weekend, he was desperate for more, savaging his manger like a dog !
That day he also had, plums, raspberries, strawberries and his usual apple and carrot...spoilt!

As far as I know they are fine for horses. Flora loves them too :)

I'm pretty sure they're fine too. Pico adores them. Oranges, blood oranges, tangerines, mandarins,... He's also licked orange juice from my hand and shown a taste for Squirt soda, which is natural grapefruit flavored, while showing no interest in other sodas. He went through a phase of insisting on eating the peels too. If I set the peel down in reach while getting ready to throw it away he'd steal it. Then one day he decided he didn't like peels anymore. He liked kumquats briefly, which was handy as they came "prepackaged" in their own little bite size , non messy to carry in a pocket form. But then, when he decided he didn't like orange peels anymore he also made it clear he wasn't intersted in kumquats either. Ah well.
He's very funny if I offer him an orange when he hasn't had one in a while (he also did this the first time I offered one) - he sniffs suspiciously at it and then tenatively takes a taste. You can SEE him thinking about it as he chews, ears flicking up and back, and then: "Oh yeah! These! These are great! More!!" forward come the ears and out stretches the nose looking for more. :D
I'm told Pico's sire had a particularly strong taste for oranges as a treat as well.
I once made the mistake of leaving my lunch sat on the side of an arena I'd turned two mares I was working with out in while I popped 'round the corner to get something. Got back to find my lunch had been raided and my orange was gone and there were two mares doing their best "who me? I'm innocent!" faces. The guilty party had tell-tale orange-scented breath though!

feeding oranges a few times a week shouldn't cause any problems, yes they are acidic but in such low volume would have little effect on the gut wall. Mare gets hers peel and all - adore them, and makes her feed smell yummy .
