Hello again, I have added a link which (hopefully) should take you to a picture of my horse back in May where he weighed 751lbs. I am buying a weight measure thingy just to monitor Charlie's weight throughout the winter. So to my question do you think for a 12yr old TB x (no idea what with) 751lbs is a good weight?

I have never really known the ideal "weight" for my girl, I went on feel and fat. When the vet came to do her flu jab I told her that she had been 620K this time last year and was now 577K, what did she think, if it is any help as a comparison she reckoned that I should aim for 560K and see what she is like. For ref she is a 14y Irish Cob 15 hands 2.

I don't think our shire cross thoroughbred weighs over 600K

As an after thought
Always use the same weigh tape they vary hugely, and if you can't find the ideal weight at least by regular "taping" you can get a good idea of ups and downs.

My TB weighs roughly 500kilos and she is 15.2

I'm still after alittle more wieght on her though.

I dont think there is an exact weight for every horse.

your horse looks heathy in the photo.

As long as you cant see ribs, flanks are not sunken in. and the rump is covered so it looks like a rouond apple not a triangle shape with the point in the middle.

Sorry my horse was 751 Kilos there not pounds. He is around 15.2 / 15.3. He did look wuite good there just with his winter coat coming in it maybe difficult to keep an eye on his weight.
Thanks

My 15.1 Welsh Section D is between 490-500 which, according to my friend's weight/height tape, is ideal. This was backed up by the vet who told me she's in fab condition.

your horse looks pretty good to me - i have a 8 yr old TB 16h have been told by both my vet and by racing yard that ideal weight is between 500 and 550 kgs - mine is at bottom end of that scale and i am trying even more to get her a bit more weight for winter

Hrmmm... 751lbs seems really tiny for me, as my yearling colt who stands 15hh weighs in at 800lbs and he isn't fat by any means. Are you sure those are the correct measurements? If I had to guess, I would have said he's probably 900lbs or a bit more

Most of our TBs when we finish conditioning them, hit the 1000lb mark no prob...especially if they are a cross.

But Charlie looks pretty good; I wouldn't worry too much about getting much more weight on him, more worry about getting him to bulk up
