I know this sounds like a stupid question but I don't know the answer!! How can you tell if a horse is cold? Because Vic was out last night and it was pretty nippy but I don't know wheither he was cold or not!!! :(

Have a feel of his "arm pit" and his ears to see if he feels cold. His coat will fluff up a bit (kinda like our goose bumps i guess). Also he will probably be looking pretty miserable if hes cold and might be hanging around at the gate waiting to come in.

The easiest way to tell is to pop your hand into his armpit. It that's a comfortable temperature, he's ok. If he's cold, it's worth popping him some extra roughage, or putting a rug on.

The base of the ear is another place to check, if it's warm then she is fine.

If she gets really cold she will shiver with her shoulder muscles twitching, but obviously you want to rug her before this point ;)
