Can't give you tips sorry.. but am ages away from a canter! ;)
Do wish you good luck though! If you trust your instructor and have worked together for a while I'm sure he/she is right. Maybe you'll remember more than you think :D
Hugs for encouragement!

And you!
Wow two hip ops and you're 13? that's awfully young, hope problem is now solved and you can go from strength to strength.

Go on a longe line. That way your trainer has control of the horse and you can just concentrate on yourself

It is very important for your instructor to know about your hip operations and any other physical problems that might make it unwise for you to risk falling again.
It might help also to talk to your instructor about the two times you fell off before. Then you and she could discuss when and if you might start to canter again.
There is a school of thought that you should teach people to ride by throwing them in the deep end (get them cantering early) and leaving them to sink or swim. The other approach is to recommend taking your time before cantering. Don't do anything until it feels safe and right for you.
My view (I am probably old enough to be your grandmother) is that the last way is best. Nervous students can't ride well and to canter smoothly you need to be relaxed. So take your time. Have a talk with your teacher. In the mean time, ride to enjoy it and remember that cantering is not compulsory.

In order to pursue a proper riding career, u need to canter, but u dont have to do it now. Im sorry that u had such a bad accident. I would be afraid as well. :( Just tell ure instructor u dont think u are ready. Trust me though, once u get going again and learn that the canter is just as fun as all the other gaits, your confidence for that gait will be really high. good luck

Definately recommend going on a lunge. That way your instructor controls the speed, and you can use both hands to hold on ;) No seriously, its great once you're happy and feel safe, but don't feel pressured into cantering unless you're totally ready for it.

You could just tuck your fingers of the inside hand onto the saddle/neck strap, so you feel a bit more secure.

Talk to your instructor, she will also give you some tips.

and only do what is comfortable for you, if you only want to do a few strides, then start with that and you can build on it each lesson.

Good Luck :)
