sharing a horse and buying a share in a horse a different i think you mean the first, but yes i think you shold learn to canter before you do.

canter is easier than trot, more conforatble etc and you dont have to go fast.

Hi Yes I loaned a horse for the first time and had not cantered for 10 years and it made me feel really insecure and the horse picked up in my insecurities and made my life very difficult. Have some lessons and feel the canter before you loan you will have so much more confidence.

Yes, I would recommend that you do learn how to canter before getting a share horse. You may never want to canter intentionally, and that is fine, but what happens if you horse gets spooked by something and canters away? You need to know how to stay on, control it, and bring it back to trot/walk. Its a lovely pace, and very enjoyable, but it can be a bit unnerving at first, and the last thing you want is your first experience of it being in an "emergency" situation.

yes, do learn how to canter before buying or loaning a horse! it'll make your life easier, and in fact, it would be better to learn how to be confident in all paces before buying one. :)
