LOL our work Christmas bash (in London) is on 2nd so I am thinking I can get my flight down paid by work :D

but have to decide whether to go for herts the week before or hamps the week after. Being away for a weekend is tough this time of year with the horses being in at night etc. So I may have no choice but to go for Herts instead....

Hi
I am going to book up for the 6th in hampshire. I have never been to one before has anyone got any information on what to expect?
I will go as spectator on this one and aim to take Bruce on next years. :)

have you read any of his books ? I dove in at the deep end and rode at a clinic without having seen him work at all  I've since watched another clinic.

The books give you a hint as to how he approaches horsemanship, etc but the clinics are about putting it into practice and the riders are normally just everyday riders who want to learn. I end up with reams and reams of notes and a head-full of ideas and thoughts :D

I'm going to the one on the 8th and I'm very excited! Also in contact with them about coming to do a clinic at my yard here in Sussex. Trying not to get my hopes up!

I'm going to the Hampshire clinic, but can't manage all 4 days, so I'm debating whether to go for the first and last day, or the last two days. Wish I could go to the whole thing, but too much going on in work at that time of year. Also wish I was taking Monty, it'll be the first one I've been to since 2001 without taking him with me :( Never mind, roll on next November!

DAGNAMIT - just agreed to take OH to Vegas otherwise I would have been taking Bo (can't afford it now) , I am going to go to the Herts one.

We are leaving for Vegas on the 2nd, so, do I go for the first 4 days or just go to a couple of days in the middle - Whos been before? - I think watching the assesment could be really good? would you be a bit lost joining in half way through? :p

I skipped the assessment day at the Devon one. It means you miss a lot of the biomechanics and saddling info - and they seem to have done some neat exercises with the audience as well !

The Hamps clinic is a day shorter, so not sure if its a different format.

I found it useful to be able to say a progression across 2 days i.e. see the same rider twice. But I was expecting it to be one set of riders day 1-2 and another day 3-4 and it was almost that but not quite ;)

I have the same dilemma to consider - can't make a whole clinic so what to go for ?

I really think the first day will interest me then, its just I will have to try and convince OH to look after all the animals for the week before we go away, I am going to work on it tonight.

Are you allowed to video the sessions?

I know individual riders got their sessions videod by friends. But I think there is more of an issue with general videoing, because of the "permission" etc. i.e. you would have to get permission of anyone you videoed

You could always double check with the organiser...

Lucky, lucky me!

I had my name down on the waiting list for the Patchett's clinic (actually, my sister did, as she spotted it while I was travelling on my honeymoon). Well, some poor person has had to pull out - and I got a riding place! Can't wait, it's a great format this time, with an assessment day then 4 whole days riding :D The longest I've managed before is a 3 day, and we got so much achieved.
The two day clinic in July was great, but not long enough. Will be fitting in as much riding as I can -weather permitting  between now and then. We've managed to practise some of the techniques I learnt from the last one, but it was so much food for though, I don't think I've digested it all enough yet. I still tend to hold my breath when I'm trotting, no matter how hard I try to relax - funny how the harder you try,the worse it gets (or is that just me?!).
So, who else is going to be there? Just promise not to laugh..... :o

I've got tickets for the Monday and Tuesday - to watch. But Ithink that will be all, as later in the week OH and I are child minding two grandchildren. it will be great to watch you again Montana - Lucky you indeed.
You are too modest. I remember you rode well last time.

Skib - Wish the whole audience was filled with people like you! As much as I love showing off my horse,(to anyone and everyone:D ) I do get so nervous before doing these things. It's only a huge compulsion to ride with Mark that makes it worthwhile. Sometimes it takes me ages just to get on!

cvb - looking forward to catching up again:) Is it only the Thursday you can make?

Showjumper - here's hoping for a flu epidemic which you magically avoid:p Will you be going to watch anyway?

Hi Montana

Are you going to be using your Black Rhino ? (or that a bad question ?)

Yes - I'm coming down for something at work on Friday, plus don't have much holiday time to take cos of the house move. Do you have a camcorder operator with you ?

Montana

Hi cvb,

Yes, I'm going to be using the Black Rhino. Will be crossing my fingers and getting Dave to check it out for me. I'm a lot happier with it now, than I was when I first got it. I always thought, with my extremely limited knowledge:rolleyes: that it was a much better fit than the other saddle, it was his reaction initially that concerned me. He wasn't as forward going, and put his ears back a lot. However, he doesn't do any of that any more, and hasn't done since the first two weeks, so I'm cautiously optimistic. A friend said to me a week or so ago when I was riding 'how come Monty doesn't swish his tail any more?'. I hadn't noticed, but when I checked, the tail was still....! I take that as a good sign. I'm hoping his initial reaction was 'ooh, this is different' rather than 'get this thing off my back!'

Would be interested in your opinion, and how it compares to yours, fit wise.

If Dave gives it the thumbs down, I'm resigned to spending out on a custom fit now, so won't be too disappointed hopefully.

I'm going all by myself again, so hoping to trade camcordering with one of the other riders. Although if you're volunteering for the Thursday shift..... :D

See you there!

Hi Montana

I was wondering whether to bring the camera down or not - mine is analogue rather than digital. If you'll have yours there, it would make more sense to be a back up "operator" for when I am there :) Happy to do so.

Mine is analogue too, but my daughter says I can borrow her digital. That would be the Monday and Tuesday. Is anyone allowed to film? Or only riders or people doing it on their behalf.

Normally its only someone videoing for the rider - tho you do see more than one videoing. I think its because of permission i.e. you'd have to get every rider's permission - especially where they are under 16 ! (child protection and all that).

I "camera sat" for some folk at the Devon clinic.

Hi Skib,

If it is just a case of rider permission, I wouldn't have any objection to you filming my sessions if you felt they might be covering something which interests you:)

You will come and say hello, won't you? Would be lovely to meet you.

Anyone else going? Mini NR meet?:D

Hi Montana, Yes, I would love to come and meet you.
It is a kind offer about the filming. But unless you actually need someone to film you so you have a record, I think I will leave the camera at home and concentrate directly on the demo. I'm looking forward to it. And to seeing the saddle too.
