heya,

riding trot often takes a few lessons to pick up so dont panic!think of opening your hips as you ride and push your hips slightly foward :) also counting in your head the horses rythm will help. like 1,2,1,2,1,2 :)

im ot rich either but to pay for my horses keep i work at the livery yard, maybe if you ask to help in exchange for rides?

Not a rich person either! hence my being 33 before I can go for lessons :) Although I am putting my daughter through them too at 6. :D

Rising trot, as explained by rather be riding :) and up down up down thing. But there is a bit of a 'jolt' when you are in the air and it's safe to sit when you feel that. :) it'll make sense when you feel it!

Just keep doing the rising and sitting while in trot and i'm sure you'll get there. :D

Enjoy your lessons and ask about helping out for when money is tight. ;)

I know how that feels, although my rs is the cheepest around i was afraid that i would have to stop riding, because i thought that my parents couldn't afford it.
I'm not sure if we can afford my riding, but I've made my mind up that i would pay for lessons myself if things get bad. so don't worry, but to ease your mind ask your parents for yourself.

as for trot, try to feel a rhythm (sp?) it helps if you learn about diagonals (ask your instructor. or ask if they can tell you when to rise and sit.
DONT WORRY, you WILL get it! x

there is some great info on the main site of New rider
Here (http://www.newrider.com/Starting_Out/The_Paces/trot.html)
and
Here also (http://www.newrider.com/Kinder_Way/The_Paces/rising_trot.html)

made a bit more sense once I'd seen these two pages. :D
Good luck!

Rising trot just feels absoloutly GREAT when you get it!!! I love it! Right sit the first few beats and then stop and let the horse bounce you up in an up and forward motion and you control your fall back in the saddle. Only rise as far as the pony/horse bounces you.
I hoped I help.
Don't try too hard.

Hi, I read your first message and know you don't have to be rich to be able to have riding lessons.

Oh yeah and I know trotting can be a bit of a worry to satrt off with but once you get used to it, it is fine.

I was always taught to do rising trot by..... When you stand stick you chest out and when you sit don't lean forward. And if you don't have a forward going horse then give it a little squeeze when you sit aswell. Oh yeah and don't forget your diagonals (if you know what they are) Just for a small tip when your horses outside leg goes forwrd you sould rise and when it goes back you should sit. It's easy really.

Believe me once you learn how to do it, it will just come naturally.

When I was riding I rode at about three different riding schools before I got a perfect trot, because at my first riding school i only had 7 lessons then my teacher moved away. Then i went somewhere else and none of their horse could canter. so i stopped riding there because of insurance. And the place I am at now. I ride about 8 different horses and I was scared of cantering, I thought I was going to fall off as soon as the horse took it's first stride of canter.

But honestly once you've had a couple of lessons in rising trot you'll be fine.

Tell me how you get on. Good Luck xxx

For diagonals: 'rise and fall to the wall', the wall being the arena or pen sides.

A good way to learn it is also to have your instructed 'tell' you by calling 'up down up down up down' until you are posting correctly so you can 'feel' what's going on. Once you can feel it, then try it on your own :)

you certainly do not need to be rich to ride. i doubt that a lot of people on NR are rich....though most of us would love to be! :D
