Yay! I'm sure that you'll be suitably impressed especially as it's probably already 'broken in' for you :)

Apart from the one time that I forgot to do the girth up and hit the deck going round a corner I haven't had an ounce of trouble with it even when she was doing her rearing thing, her spin on her back legs thing, her spook sidewards in gallop thing ......

It's also SOOOOO comfortable and feels so secure, you will not want to ride in a treed saddle ever again.

Greatstuff Hackedoff :) I'm sure you will love it. I do mine, and Sennie does too. Just be careful of the stirrup leather coming off the stirrup bar problem that I encountered. I took Bay Mare's advice and bought some fab dressage leathers which have completely solved it.

Dressage leathers have a loop at the top that goes over the stirrup bar and fasten at the bottom so that you don't rub your thighs on the buckle. I love mine, I have the leather ones with the nylon core so that they don't stretch, I've also teamed them with the wide tread stirrups ... brilliant :)

If you don't like the idea of dressage leathers, people have found that putting rubber bands or stuff like the tennis racket grip on the stirrup bar is still safe but gives a bit more grip to 'normal' stirrups.

Hi Hackedoff :)

I found that the stirrup leathers could slip off the stirrup bars of my SBS fairly easily when using normal stirrup leathers. It happened once in canter, which was a little off putting! Using dressage leathers has stopped the problem completely. I think its the small loop at the top which helps. Not all of them have this issue, but its as well to be aware of it.

The ones Bay Mare uses and which I have now bought are really good. They are a leather sandwich with a nylon core, which stops them stretching, and as BM says, take all the bulk away from underneath your thigh.

OT but I use bent iron stirrups with mine.

It's a fab saddle, which I just love. It's really comfortable and Sennie is very happy in it. Its also especially useful if you ever ride a different horse as it is transferable. The woman I got mine from rode a cob, a thoroughbred and an arab in it :)

Happy riding, and let usa know how you get on with yours :)

I used the same type of Dressage leathers on my SBS as Baymare shows in the photo, until the buckle came undone twice in one ride.I now use Bates Webbers which have a sort of T fitting on the leather.

I've never heard of that happening, if you bought the leathers from me could you contact me please? I must admit I like t-bar leathers, the ones I have have are non-stretch too and look much tidier :).

Hi Nix.I bought the stirrup leathers from a tack shop near us,never really felt confident with them, thought the little pin bit was'nt sufficient to hold them together. Was just a bit worried when I saw the stirrup lying on the ground, leather still attached to saddle, this happened twice. I now use bates webbers.
The SBS which I bought from you is fantastic,I wish I had two of them just in case I ever need a spare.
My horse is a lot more relaxed in it-I am a lot more comfortable in it,I love it,love it love it.
All the best,Linda

got the saddle now (finally!) I can see how the stirrup could come off that bar all right is it me or is that a daft design. will wrap some plaiting bands around bar for traction for now and better warn hubby I'm off shopping again.
Ps the saddle looks HUGE after my 16" Barefoot- hope The Wiz isnt swamped!

I agree, it is a bit of a daft design. As I said I use the same dressage leathers as Bay mare, and guess what? the left stirrup and leather came off the stirrup bar while my sharer was riding the other night. So using dressage leathers is not a fail safe solution.

Love the saddle, but I'm going to have to go for fixing the stirrup leather onto the bar with a strong elastic band or something. I use bent iron safety stirrups, so I'm not worried about getting my foot caught.
