Howdy.
I know you all love a challenge, and i know that there are a few of you who love looking for horses for peeps, so I thought... save the leg work get the guys of newrider (who lets face it are an international force to be reckoned with) to find Treacle a man!
So who fancies finding Treacle a suitable "donor" to produce bambinos?
She is a 15.3hh light bay, long backed (belongs to a 16.2hh I'm sure) short legged (wouldn't go amis on something ID) ISH, with a good deal of arab in her prob, (she has pretty face). 9 yrs old, huge backside, fast, good natured (most of the time) and going barefoot, (transitioning).
I Would like to produce (to keep for me) an eventer type, capable of a bit of everything. Ideally to mature over 16.2hh, of broad chest and weight carrying, (ie; decent bone). oh and athletic.
I've looked at long limbed short backed TBs, but wouldn't mind any breed as long as it had a short back to compliment her long back.
Would love for her to run with stallion but would consider AI or in-hand.
Any one heard of a suitable stud? or do you have the right boy yourself?
I'm planning to have her covered in 2007 (fingers crossed).
Many thanks
HH

Dont go for extremes to compliment her. But instead look for something very well put together. As combining extremes rarely result in a well conformed horse. :)
I love looking for stallions, so will start now, if I may. :)http://www.stallionsdirect.com/stallions/fleetwateropposition.html

My advice for what is worth;
1. Ask yourself what you want to be using your foal for, once it is a grown animal. If you want a show horse or an athlete for a specific event. If you are looking primarily for a hacking horse.
2. Study your mare to see what you would change about her if you could. Try to choose a stallion that throws these qualities in his foals. Prioritize your requirements such as size, conformation, temperament, and then try to balance the possible cross between the stallion you are considering, and your mare's strong points.
3. Study your mare's pedigree, and then try to match the pedigree of the stallion so that you are not crossing bloodlines that are too close. The results are always going to be unpredictable, and the chance of producing an unwanted recessive gene are much greater.
5. Contact stallion owners and ask for information about their horse. Ask for videos showing their gait, and for photos of their offspring. The proof is in the pudding, and stallion owners are very willing to provide positive evidence of their horse's ability to produce great offspring.
6. Don't select a stallion based on his breeding fees. Many very GOOD stallions are available at low fees, and conversely, a high price tag does not guarantee a good foal.
7. Ask for and then study breeding contracts. Look for things like LFG (live foal guarantee), and additional costs like container fees, and shipping expenses, and nomination or booking fees.
8. Never breed to a stallion that is not blood-typed.
9. Even if you never intend to sell your foal, always consider what a stallion will add to the price you would get if you DO have to sell the foal. Ask the stallion owners for information on what prices the foals of their horse are fetching on the market. Things like the show records of other progeny by the horse will affect the price you can ask for your foal.
10. Contact the owners of other foals by stallions you are interested in. Find out what the babies are like - gait, conformation, size, health, and disposition. Some foals can be very talented, but also what is called 'game', or difficult to manage.
11. Once you have chosen your stallion, stay in contact with the owner. They should be willing to offer tips and follow-up advice on the care and training of progeny from their stallion.

Thankyou all
I do have a fair bit of exp with TB breeding (for racing) but pleasure horse (us amateurs) it's more a case of knowing whats out there!
Treacle doesn't have a pedigree, she's the heinz 57 variety, she could have bit of everything in her!
When I say short backed , I mean more "normal", ie; closer to perfect conformation.
A deep chest, good bone and height are my most important considerations. As treacle has a fab temperment, is a good doer, good legs (just belonging to a smaller horse).
Swift is closer to the height I was looking for than Opposition, I have looked at Opposion's line before, I quite like trakaners I think they'd make a nice cross - tend to produce good paces. Still want a bit more height?

Meadowbrook (TB) - stands at West Kington Stud. Produces a lot of talented eventers, good temperament and movement which comes through in his stock - I believe he stands around 16.2hh. My friend's dressage horse is by him out of a Shire x Weslh D mare and is really nice (and stands around 16.3hh).

Has anyone heard about these stallions?
Major league (TB) or More Pokey (TB)?

Only Major League I know is a WB.
More Pokey is nice, def the kind of thing I would use if I wanted alot of TB influence into my mare, for an eventer stamp.

I love my TB's, but Im also a great WB fan, and with Pee having alot of TB in her already, wanted a nice WB influence, with lots of allround potential thats why we went for Freshman :D

Peri is in foal to Mooiman :D but he is very much a dressage stock producer

But Flemmingh was a good sj'er wasent he? So the lines should throw that aswell?
Freshman is being marketed for dressage, but will jump to, but the mare is jumping lines, so really for that it dident matter, and I ultimately wanted a dressage horse.
But I think quality and substance outweighs all, and ability to do things, with Flemmingh starting out as an SJ'er turned dressage I thought that was a good mix?

Flemmingh doesn't have the best rear end, one of the reasons I went for Mooiman is for the good back end - Mooiman is out of a Roemer mare and Roemer is reknowned for producing jumpers.
Moo's dressage index is actually higher than Flemmingh's, not sure about Freshman's

My big horse that just got rehomed, was out of a Roemer mare, I love the breeding, but opted for different this time.
He was by Pik Bube.
Freshman is an unshown 4yr old so took abit of a gamble there, but feel its worth it, his mums sire is Sandro, so it incorporates some excellent lines there to :)
Did you see his pictures Lgd?

Have you a pic of your mare?
I say put her to a friesian but then I am rather biased!!!!!:D ;) But they do give, bone, substance, nice movement and such a nice temperament and really good compact conformation!!
