Hello everyone...

This is my first post though I have been lurking and reading for quite a while. I also posted this in the 'starting out' forum I hope multiple posts are allowed.

Could anyone reccommend a good riding school near Manchester? I am willing to travel to Bolton/Bury way as well.

I am not a beginner, I owned my own horses from 5-18 years old but had to give up when I moved to England for uni. I'm finding it hard to get a friendly yard with good quality horses for lessons and hacking out. Eventually I plan to part-loan but for now would be happy with a few lessons a week.

Any comments appreciated thanks - I have been looking for places on the internet but as you know first hand recommendations are so useful!

Hi and welcome to NR :)

To be honest, you'll really stuggle to find any decent riding schools around Manchester :( We're not exactly overwhelmed with them around here :o How far can you travel? As to get somewhere really good you will have to either venture into Cheshire or up towards Preston! Even worse if you want somewhere that hacks out - the places I would recommend certainly don't :( A lot depends on what kind of level you're wanting to ride at - there's places that I would consider fine for beginners to learn the basics in that they probably wouldn't teach a load of rubbish, but for someone really wanting to progress, they're simply not that good.

Sad, but I think it's a problem we all have round here and a lot of us have ended up travelling miles just to get a decent lesson :(

Thanks for the welcome!

I am really struggling with finding somewhere - I would rather go up Preston/Bolton/Bury way than Cheshire as I live in North Manchester.

I would like to take private/semi private lessons to improve my position and restart jumping again. I used to showjump/event/hunt etc at riding club level but that was six or seven years ago - so i'm a little rusty! I've been riding on and off in different places but nowhere has really caught my imagination. One place that shall remain nameless charged me £19.50 for a private lesson - after five minutes in the indoor school he said 'you can obviously ride so I'll leave you to it' and spent the rest of the time talking to someone else in the viewing area! Not really what I had in mind for the hour!

If you would have any suggestions I would be really grateful.
