This thread follows on from another after I was asked about the new L2 Pack (PNH) and what students are missing if they don't upgrade.

The new harmony pack has about 8 DVD's all packed with lessons with Linda, and an occasional bit of Stephanie Burns and some Pat somewhere I think ! :p

It is focussed even stronger again on a deeper level of equine behaviour and having a greater understanding of that and how that transposes to helping us with our riding.

A lot of focus on fluidity and saddling, shim positions and physiology of the horse.

Many of the assessment tasks have now changed, so you really need to be studying the new pack if you intend on gaining your level 2 in an official capacity.

I know it's at extra cost, and not everyone can afford it. I think the Parelli's will be criticised for it requiring extra outlay for students, but I hope not. Hell, if they didn't update their programs we would be guilty of the same things as traditional folk in that we do things because it's always been done that way (refer the Training of the Rider thread on Why we do things a certain way).

You get to watch a fair bit of linda riding and doing tasks with Remmer, which suprisingly doesn't always go as smoothly as you would think. It's nice to see him refuse the odd jump and make Linda look human!!

The thing that has helped me so much is I have realised how self critical i am of my riding ability. Watching other students and Linda occasionally get off balance or experience impulsion frustrations has made me realise that I'm not doing as badly as I often think.

That'll do for now....any questions fire away !

L2 really is where the fun begins, so enjoy the journey. :D

I thought I'd replied to this thread once before but I must have forgot to hit the submit button. I Love the new level 2 pack! I have a friend who is in level 3 and she bought the new level 2. We're not rich by any means we're farmers and I work off the farm at the local bank. I knew it was coming out and saved for it and it's well worth it. I'm lucky because my horse lives on the farm with me and I have lot's of pasture and free hay so I didn't think the expense was all that bad. I'd be paying more for a trainer and not learning as much. I know this because I've done it. I have a friend who couldn't afford the new one so I lent her my old one and told her she's welcome to borrow the dvd's from the new one. I just seem to be a much more visual student and this new one works for me. Save up for it, ask for it for Christmas or your birthday. If you have a good friend that's also doing PNH buy one and share it but do get it!

Is the DVD Harmony pack only for sale in the USA? I can't find it on the UK parelli site....

Hi Demson,
Yes I bought it while I was in the US at the conference. There is some uncertainty as to when the rest of the world will have it available to them. You can however buy it online from the US, only trouble is you may have to switch your DVD format to read it. I know 4 people in Aust. with it (we were all at the conference) 2 of us had problems with out DVD players, although can play it on our computers (which suits me better), and 2 didn't have any probls at all.

Hi,

Was told at the conference that new L2 pack is not yet available in the UK for exactly the reasons Naturally has just described (DVD format). Nobody could tell me when it will be here. :(

Just want to clarify something...how different are the tasks to the old L2 pack and why should the new one be studied if your intention is to gain your L2 in an official capacity, why will the old one not be sufficient? Have been plodding along through the old pack and wonder is it worth my while changing over?

Thanks
Kim x

Totally understand where your coming from Kim and had similar questions myself initially. :p

Firstly, the assessment tasks reflect what is studied in the new pack, and so that is a deeper understanding of equine behaviour, but also things like Pushing Passenger Lesson, Different impulsion programs, *** for tat and other stuff. Much of the impulsion program has changed i.e. no more clover leaf (it was being done to death). Not using your CS as much, focusing on not using your feet etc. So all of this stuff is what will be reflected in the new assessments. Also FLC has been taken out, so do go beating yourself to death on that one :)

I think you can check the new assessment criteria on the US site and perhaps compare it.

Really if you just want to have a good established riding relationship with your horse, following the old L2 pack would do fine, but I think you will have needed to at least studied the new additions to the pack if you want to pass an official assessment. The thing is, that the P's have discovered considerable flaws in the old pack and have realised where some students have been going wrong, and so have made ajustments to counteract that.

To be honest, I only bought my pack because I got it really cheap at the conference. But now that I have it, I realise I would have paid full retail for all the extra information it has in it.

Also, just so you are aware, they are teaching very differently in the US now, and we are starting to have it introduced here too. You may lag in the UK for a little while until Mr Mariott pulls his head out of his EE bubble and sees that some students are still interested in grass roots Parelli, but that's a whole other topic. :p

They are teaching only 3 clinics now.

Course 1 : Equine Behaviour and Liberty
Course 2: Fluidity 1 (freestyle)
Course 3: Fluidity 2 (finesse)

You can read about the format on the US site. It is a brilliant way to teach IMO, and beats the devil out of the old style levels teaching, which tended to make students too task oriented.

Phew, hope that explains some of your questions. Glad to answer any more if I can .

Can I just ask if L1 has been updated and available in DVD format (in the UK)?

thanks

Yes the new L1 DVD partnership pack is available in the UK,

However while tasks such as trailer loading etc have been omitted it is advised to follow the old Level 1 pack....Why??? good question..

The reason being the tasks in level 1 prepare you for the tasks in level 2. So if you purchase the new L1 pack and don't complete the tasks in the Old L1 pack then when you try to do Level 2 tasks you'll encounter lots of problems.

Seems ironic doesn't it...mind the structure of the DVD's is so much better and so much esier to understand. I didn't buy it as I have passed level 1 but though I have the L2 pack I am interested in buying the new L2 pack.

The new packs seem to explain everything a lot better as well.

Well I've "unofficially" passed my L1 groundwork based on the assessment sheet downloaded from the US Parelli site in May this year. My "assessor" was a L3 student who attends clinics often, and this year hosted a PNH clinic with Dave Ellis.

I think this was the new edition as there was no trailer loading, and a 21min pushing passenger trot exercise going on.

I was using a borrowed horse who has done parelli with beginners for a few years so he knew what he was doing. Now I have my own horse and I have to start over - from scratch, so I was just wondering which would be better for me to get.

The UK Savvy Club are still advertising the video version as the pack you get, and I wondered if this was still true.

Hi Casey,

Definately get the new DVD pack for L1. It is far better. If you are just starting out it is really the best option. The teaching is better and the tasks have been refined to reflect better horsemanship.

Smart move to get you started on a horse with PNH experience. It does help to have someone show you the ropes (i.e. the horse ;) )

Once I had taken one horse through level one I found it so much easier to take others through, even though they have all been different breeds, horsenalities and physical characteristics.

Thanks naturally,

Thats taken a lot of guess work out of it...Im going to log on to US Parelli site and take a look at the assessment sheet....see what surprises are in store for me!! Ahh well...at least I can canter bareback for 60 seconds, show a gallop transition and in a cherokee bridle... :D It cant get much more difficult than that...shhhhh dont tell me

Question: Any idea when the new L2 pack will be available here, or, if you did purchase it in the US now...is there any machine here that you could play it on??

I'll leave you in peace soon...promise :)

I always thought that if your DVD palyer was multi region then it would play anything even DVD's from the USA..

Am I wrong in thinking this???

Is it a condition (for UK) to purchase the new L2 pack in order to take the new L2 level?

Looking at the task sheet it all looks fairly straigthforward. Just two areas I am not sure what is meant as follows:-

OL1. Play the Seven Games with an obstacle.

and

L2. Play the Seven Games at Liberty in seven minutes.

With this last one and say the driving game, would this be in just one area such as the h/q or is it all areas.

I imagine it means using an obstacle as in say sitting on abarrel...not really sure though and playing all the games in 7 min means what it says. Instead of taking your time playing ALL the games you have to get through them in 7 min...at least that is how it sounds..I guess th epack will explain it all properly
