Soon i'm going to get a treeless for my newly backed Arab. I have been looking at all of them and do not know which one to go with!! I know there are some experienced treeless lovers on here so i thought i'd ask!

My girl is about 14.2 +hh (not measured in a year! was 14.2hh at 2 year old!)
I want to hack mainly, and bring her on. One day we will do sponsered rides. I don't do much riding just the hacking on weekends, so won't need a a super dooper one! not planning to do any showjumping comps or anything, just love the company of my horse in the english countryside!! i'm about 5'4" and 9 st, what sort of saddle or size would suit us best do you think?? i backed her in a treeless, she was great and its so comfy was tara's one (perditaM) so know we both like them!!

any idea's??

thanks in advance
Karen

If you don't plan on competing in showing/jumping, and you like Perdita's saddle, I'd go for a Torsion type saddle (you can pick up a Barefoot or Trekker brand new for around £300)

I've seen the barefoot one and i quite like that one! What size would I need? I know the sizing is different with these!

Thanks! :)

Hi there,

my wife rides an arabian 7 year old mare, treeless (barefoot) and bitless.
Great fun.

Interested to discuss it ?

Myself I drive a pair of draugth horses bitless and no blinds. Fantastic relation not hurting them and even better control as no pain fighting.

sizings seem to roughly equate to:

size 0 = 16" saddle (they say 14" saddle on the website but they sent me the measurements and it was basically a 16", well that is to say, my size 12 bottom would have fitted in it and I certainly cannot ride in a 14"!).
size 1 = 17"
size 2 = 18"

We are considering the barefoots for ours :) Unfortunately they are extremes - Stephen and Alfie would need the size 2, Rupert and I would ideally need the size 0 although could just about get away with a size 1 if my bottom too big! :o

I would go for a Barefoot Cheyenne. I have one and I don't compete etc. Just a happy hacker. I've had mine for a while now and it's still in excellent condition and my mare is a changed horse! I use a suber pad with it (the full suber pad with panels to go under the saddle flaps). I have a TB and the Grandeur saddle pad that they sell to go under the barefoot seemed to rub my mare's loins as the seam was quite thick and stiff.

I would go for a Barefoot as opposed to Torsion as Torsion are expensive and not disimilar to the Barefoot. I also met the UK sales rep recently and she was so rude to me because she realised I had a barefoot. She was virtually hurling abuse at me!

My horse is also bitless and barefoot!
