HI All,
I have had a hectic couple of weeks, trying to fit in the filmshoot for the next video on top of all that has happened. I hate doing videos! I would rather write a book anyday. You can guarantee that the horses will be at their worst those days, although this time, Lipi, our Lipizzaner, who can be a spooky devil at the best of times, was actually remarkably well behaved when faced with this strange filming platform which had appeared in a gap in the hedge that previously also hadn't been there, on the bank above the outdoor school! Della, last year's working student who still comes in to ride and school, rode him very nicely, so I am hoping that the footage comes out well.
NR member Ros, who lives locally and has become a friend, was very patient in being one of my guinea pigs to have there to talk to- I am hopeless if I just have to look at a camera instead of a face! So thanks for your patience Ros!
Mike, my ex-working student came back down from Berkshire to be in the film again- he is riding absolutely beautifully. He has put into practise everything I have told him to work on and is getting better still.
My beautiful Hispano Arab Fanta, I rode in the indoor school for the filming, as he is still very distracted outdoors. Having only been gelded seven weeks, his hormones although less, haven't disappeared yet, and he had been ridden only in indoor schools and had never been in a field for the last four years, so he is going to take a while to acclimatise to this new found freedom.
He is generally going very well in the indoor school, although I have taken him back quite a lot in his schooling, doing a fair bit of lunging, as I felt that he needed more work to establish his paces. However, day of the shoot, he knew that he had an audience and something was going on. He practically said to Rick the cameraman- 'I hope you have got my best side'!!
He several times did Spanish Walk without me asking him, and generally pratted about just plain showing off! I hope that he listens a bit more when i start showing him and doing demos with him!!! So, whether I will have any suitable footage from that lot, remains to be seen!
Marie-Anne, one of my Teacher Trainees, and a NR member, took some super video of him , behaving perfectly I might add, a few weeks ago when she was down on a course. Think I had better email her and ask her to send it on down to use in the film!
Luchia, my new Lusitano x TB mare, who has been going amazingly well, bearing in mind that she is 9 and had had no proper eductaion at all, having been a hack for four years and not ridden at all for the last year due to her previous owner's serioous illness. Admittedly, I have ridden her mostly in the indoor school as her concentration has been better in there, but she had been much more focused the last couple of times I took her out there, and as Rick was moaning about her being bay and the light indoors even with the big TV lights, not being as good as outdoors, I rode her on the outdoor school. Well and truly in season ( and a proper little madam she is too- Debbie my yard manager came out to find Dutch Warmblood, Ringo, mounting her, and he never normally does sucha thing- bit of a ladies man yes, but taking things that far- dearie me!) she went the worst she has in the seven weeks we have had her! Sods law, following day, an old friend of mine, Nick, came to visit, who I taught to ride when we were teenagers, and he has his own horse. Naturally he wanted to see me ride the two new ones.
Lucy went the best she has ever gone, and Fanta was foot perfect- now why couldn't the little swines have done it the previous day!!!
So, now the dreaded edit and scripting/voiceover. The last video took me 170 hours of editing and put me in hospitall with pneumonia and pleurisy, requiring six weeks off. I have refused to work to a tight deadline this time, even though it is very much wanted for it to be on sale for the Equine Event. If i can get it done, so well and good, but as i have lost so much money due to FMD this year, I can't afford to take a whole month off to edit it as before, which turned into 10 weeks due to being ill!
Editing has to be the most boring job in the world and so time consuming. I am hoping still to post a bit more than recently ono NR, but bear with me again until this edit is over. I promise that next year, as long as plans are not disrupted again by unforeseen circumstances, as this years have been, I will be back to posting here as I used to.
Cheers,
Heather
