Arghhhh Saturday's ridden assessment day turned out to be a pass/fail type assessment! I thought the College we are doing Stage 1 training at, would just be seeing what standard our riding was at, then helping us improve ready for the exam.

It turned out though to be a proper assessment. If they don't think our riding is pretty much at the right standard, we cannot continue with ridden training for the next 5 weeks. They basically just spend the time brushing up on technique for the exam. If you haven't got the basic seat and control already, they will not accept you on a Saturday for riding

So....... we find out sometime this week, wether we will be going along next Saturday  They send the results out in the post!

I think Arabesque has passed (she is a sneaky devil, that girl - she saw which was the easiest horse to handle from the first group, then made sure she got it when our group went in! :p ) but I'm not sure about me. I couldn't stop my pony cantering - it took me an extra half-circuit of the school after being asked for trot to find the brakes!

Good luck.
Dont worry about it. They will take into account the temprement of the horse as well.
We got a horse in our stage one that reared up quite a few times. It was removed after our ridden test mind. But she still passed as she sat well and dealt with the situation.

omigod! That must be a change. They just shoved me straight into the stage 2 - much too high a standard - when I went to the same college about 3 years ago. No assessment, and some of the horses were really really hard to handle - I think they get problem horses to sort out.

Very best of luck, lets hope they take the horse characteristics into account, I am sure you will be just great

heard all about that today from Deborah on my yard who is on the same course as you. Even I could not believe that. Good luck to the three of you. Fingers crossed and I hope that when I return (if you dont get your results by Wed) to hear that you have all passed

I do wonder though if it's something to do with the fact that 15 of us wanted to attend the ridden sessions....

No assessment, and some of the horses were really really hard to handle - I think they get problem horses to sort out.None of them were maniacs, thankfully. We were told that they keep the sensible ones for Stage 1 students.... lol... :D Although one of them was very highly strung at first - it had beautiful paces, especially when it was going sideways down the short side - all the better to keep both eyes on us spectators! :D Oh and one bolshy pony who didn't want to leave his pals and have a canter. I felt heartily sorry for the person who had to deal with that - none of us wanted to ride him after that....

Yep Debs is a good rider (we used to be on the old farm when she had Jack and I was a rather nervous beginner) and I spent the other day talking to her about the horses you rode (Kes). She was sying that you had all thought it funny that there were two of you riding the same horse.

Shame that Debs horse Cia is out of action right now :(

I think it's a bit naughty of them not to tell you about the exam at the begining - especially if you had paid for the full course & may have been chucked off half way through!

Congats by the way :D
