I would have carved out a career working with horses, got my bhs exams and by my ripe old age of 33 i could have been running my own yard or something by now. Instead i married early (the first marriage i might add) and had my children in my early 20s. But now its too late!! Dont regret having my children but hindsight is a brilliant thing isnt it??!!!

Not stop riding 15 years ago, looking back this was so stupid of me, but there were various family problems at the time, so maybe more realisticaly should be that I should have started riding again as soon after I stopped as possible.

rezzer, please don't say it's too late! I'm 33 next year and would quite like to take some of the BHS exams at some point. Also (O/T) on the never too late thing, I re-took my English GCSE this year, which I failed at school, and got an A, just to prove I could (and it wasn't too late). I am now doing the English A/S.

And the advantage of having kids while you are younger is that they grow up sooner and let you get on with riding horses and not childcare - eldest (step daughter) just started at Brighton Uni this September and Youngest is very independant and is doing A-levels at King Teds and working in a coffee shop on Satudays - sadly neither showed any interest in riding.

18 months ago I hadnt been near a horse for 17 years, I am now 36 and took my BHS stage 1 in June this year, think it must be a mid-life crisis. Wish me luck for March, ive got my stage 2 booked. This with a full time job and two children I had in my 20's!

! Life is too short for regrets, make up for what you missed out on now, Im loving it!

I wouldn't want to do it again. Some parts of it were pretty tough. But I am in a good place now and I wouldn't have gotten here if I wouldn't have taken the rough roads in the past. I am where I want to be.
Would I have liked to be a veterinarian and super good rider? Sure.

I guess I'd do a lot differently. I see people 5 or 6 years younger than me at a similar point to me in their careers because they started earlier. I could have bought a house before the prices became ridiculous. I could have done a lot of different things at an earlier age.

But I don't think it would have been better, just different. I'd have missed doing some not so great jobs with some fantastic people, missed out on a lot of skills that I do have and doubt I'd be any happier because of it.

I can't change it and I don't regret what I've done. Partly because there's no point, but also because even the bits I haven't enjoyed have been in some way positive and the decisions I made I made for a reason.

Maybe it helps that I believe everything happens for a reason and that I'm doing what I'm meant to. I suppose it's believing in fate, but still feeling that I have a choice and decisions to make - I just assume I'll come to the decision I'm meant to!

Hi,

Wish I had ridden as a child and become more confident, did not start until I was 39 and learnt to get over my fear. Absolutely love it but still not the most confident rider.

I suppose you're right, but its not that easy to do things like start from scratch when you're older.

Today I've been thinking about a silly mistake I made not really horsey but does effect my horsey life. Usually I find the good in all my mistakes but in this one I just can't. Thank you KarinUS for this

Hi, I'm 33, and regret not ever having the chance to go to college.. And not being able to learn to ride.

Soooo... I'm 3 months into lessons and I'm trying to lose weight to get into a BHS course in February! :D hubby is helping me stay on track and is paying for the course for me!

Not sure if I want a career out of it, just knowledge and experience.. so I can get a horse of my own or a share at the very least! :D

It's NEVER too late! if you want it enough.. ;) :D

hehe lucky you! You'd be fine! :D
I don't mind saying it.. as I'm not at my heaviest. :p

I 'woke up' to find myself last xmas at just over 17 stone :( .. I honestly hadn't realised how fat I was getting! :o

I'm now 14st 3lb.. so still 'chunky' and need to lose at least 1.5 stones for the course.. Which has a weight limit of 13 stone. I don't mind though.. it's the kick up the butt I needed to get back to losing some more of my weight.

I want to get down to about 10.5/11 stones, as I was happy at that weight.
I'm quite muscular after weight lifting in my late teens, so was always heavier than I looked. I don't mind that, but it's different these days.

Hopefully come February I'll look better in my jod's!
