there is a highland pony at the rescue centre where i volunteer and its colour is amazing, its sort of like purple colour, i know it isnt but thats what it looks like. can anyone help me out here?

Probably either a roan, or greying out. The ponies Esther posted are roan, the pony Cherokke posted is going grey. At some stages of grey ponies can look very roan - but a true roan will have dark head and legs, and a paler body.
