Hey does anyone know how long it takes a mane to grow back when u have hoged it and would you need a neck cover when the horse is out?

It is different for every horse, but this has been my experience. I roached my horse's mane, last November. We skipped the winter show season, and by the time we were back competing in March, it was about six inches long, and I need to trim some of it. I do not think that you would need a neck cover, but maybe your horse's mane is long enough that it keeps that neck warm, then you might. It really all depends on the horse. I always keep a hood on my Thoroughbred in the winter, but for some of the hardier horses do not need them.

My horse's mane is about 2 feet long. I wouldn't dream of cutting it. His tail almost drags the ground. He's a Tennessee Walker. When I bought him the previous owner chopped his forelock off (eeks) and it took a year for it to look normal. Thankfully he didn't cut his mane.

We got a wild Shetland mare from the hill, her mane was one big mat so it had to go. That was last spring, this summer she has a full mane again ...with no knots!

I have to keep our Fjord's mane hogged with the white bits trimmed lower than the black bits (just for effect) I have to do it at least once a month to keep it in trim. If I let it grow for the winter, by spring she almost has a mane again.

my horses mane grows very quickly, i keep a bridle path and this has to be cut every two weeks because it grows so quickly, in two weeks it's about 1 and a half inches.

It depends on the horse - my own horse is hogged and his mane grows really quickly - 2-3 weeks after hogging and he already has a mohican hairstyle!
