Three weeks ago on a pleasure ride skye must have trodden on a sharp stone which must have cut into her sole. We found the cause of the intermittent lameness last week - a small line/crack. We poulticed for three days and let her wander in the field with a canvas boot on. It doesn't seem infected and we have put iodine onto the crack. she doesn't seem bothered at all unless a stone or packed mud/stone presses directlyon the sole.
Can anyone tell me how long it will be before the sole is healed enough to leave the boot off and also how long before we can ride again. My farrier suggested using keratex to help healing and harden the hoof.

My pony cut his frog once.I had to poultice that and keep standing him in salt water. That healed after about 3/4 weeks.

Hi
I don't want to worry you but be very carefull and make sure its kept clean as if infection gets in, it can get into the bones in the foot and then theres not much that can be done for them, this is what happened to us a couple of years ago and we lost the most amazing horse :(.
I am sure yours is not that bad but just be aware that it can be serious
