Just wondering if there are any shire owners out there, you seem to see them less and less these days, post your pics if you like

Hiya - I own a shire x thoroughbred. I'll post some pics as soon as I've taken any decent ones :o

I've got a shire cross (probably welsh D). People always say how much she looks like a shire - she's got the long legs and the colouring.

This is her doing family horse with Ali. It doesn't show how long legged she actually is though - she's more a 'sport cob'. But most she looks like a barrel on legs cos she's podgy

Ahh bless her she's lovely! I am right in saying that pure shires are seen less and less these days aren't i? You very rarely come across pures, it's a shame because they are such magnificent creatures

I am good friends with a guy who keeps about 8 shires...all pure bred. He shows them aswell. He is a farrier.

Steph, there are quite a lot of shores around manchester/cheshire aren't there :)
Does anyone know if they make good riding horses? I know some people have crosses but if they are good how come more people don't have them as I better reckon with the charachter trait of good temprements etc they would make excellent RS horses.

I read an article about shire horses not too long ago. I'm sure they are good riding horses but can you imagine trying to get on or open gates
I can't get on my 15.2 (but I measured him at 15.3 :p ) from the ground. If you go onto www.bhs.org.uk (I think) and go to the breeds index.

There is a shire at my RS. I don't know if he is pure bred though. He is 16.3hh, and is soooo wide, you feel like your doing the splits when you are on him. He is also really safe, he gets used for RDA and begginer lessons, some people think he would be bolshy and use his strength against you when you ride him, but he doesn't. He is just so sweet, and is everyones little fav at the stables :p :D I only have3 pics of him, when he is lying down in the field. I will post thme later, photbucket is being really slow.
