I bought my 13.2hh welsh x 19 year old gelding three weeks ago.
When he arrived he'd had a bit of a traumatic journey and had pulled off his off fore and hind shoes and cut his correnet band (sp)
Since having him three weeks and observing him in the field and stable I've noticed he has a tendancy to cross his legs, often standing on the oposit hoof.
I was thinking this is possibly why he pulled off the two shoes on his way over. Plus I noticed this evening that he's cast another one! (I did manage to find the shoe in the field so hopefully I'll be able to get it nailed back on)
His hooves arn't in the best nick. My farrier thinks that they waited too long between shoeings. I asked if there was anything I could do to improve his hooves but he said no. He has thin walls and soles. Does this mean he;s more likely to loose shoes and need shod more often??
Also, would putting over reach boots on him help prevent him pulling the shoes off???
Thanks in advance!
