Heya all,

As I have said in "OMG guess what" I think it was called, I am going to be showing Cheek and my sister on Saintly. All we need to do is pull a float and then they are ours :p

Small problem - my mum has NEVER in her life pulled a horse float, or a trailer. My dad has pulled trailers and millions of other stuff - jst not a horse float. Anyways, before we go, obviously mum/dad are gonna practise with the hired float - but I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for pulling a float? Is it simular to a trailer? I would pull it myself, but I only have my learners :p

Cheers guys!

I make my mum pull the float and I'm 33!! I'm just a big wuss!

Towing a float is a lot different than pulling a trailer. The float does push the vehicle a little, so leave LOTS of room for braking and watch out for idiots who cut in front of you  Slow down well before corners and do turns and roundabouts slowwwly.

Have fun at the show!

I was taught an 20% rule. Always drive 20% slower than the speed limit (or slower if needs be) 20% Further behind another vehicle than you would normally. Go 20% wider on corners. Use your breaks 20% sooner than normal and 20% slower than normal. Allow 20% more time to get there than normal and leave 20% earlier than you think you might need :p

Obviously traffic etc all dictates all of the above, but it's a good rule of thumb to remember.

The biggest thing for your Mum to remember is that it's a live animal in the back  And that panicking and hitting the brakes is a BAD thing
If you over shoot a turn, just take the next exit....it's better than scaring the horse.

Also, for you.... Make sure your horse is loaded and comfortable well in advance of your leaving time. Make sure everything is hooked up correctly and your brakes are working. Don't be late or everyone will be stressed....And we KNOW what Mum's can be like when they are stressed

Oh...And make your Mum and cup of tea when you get there ;)
