....I have a freelance instructor coming out tomorrow to give me my first lesson in 9yrs, as Saxon is a little green and my riding position leaves a lot to be desired I thought it would be a good idea.

I want help in achieving an independent seat as at present no stiruups = falling off!!

Also, I want help in giving clear aids, as Sax is really still a baby I don't want to confuse him.

So, I'm meeting her at a yard about 2 minutes ride from where Saxon lives, should I get in the school and "warm-up" whilst I wait for the instructor? Or should I dismount and wait for her to keep Sax "fresh" for the lesson? Will she want to ride him?

I'm no expert, but I think in your position I would aim to arrive a little before the time you arranged with the instructor, and just ride Saxon round a bit so he gets used to the 'new' surroundings, and is relaxed and happy to work on.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Yep I agree with Luxie, I'd want to get there about 10 mins early and walk him round so that you are not wasting the first part of your lesson getting him used to his surroundings. Saying that, I'd stick to walk as your instructor is likely to want to watch how you warm up as well as how the horse goes both when just getting going AND when nice and supple.

As far as whether she'll want to ride, really depends on the instructor. Some do and some don't. May also depend on whether you want her to.

Very best of luck and prepare to ache :D :D . Report tomorrow please :D !!!

Good luck today Sarah. Let me know what the instructor is like - if she's any good I'll book some lessons with her too.

Get there a little early and let Saxon have a few laps of the school to get used to where he is and relax.

I'm sure you'll be fine and really enjoy it.
