Shadow is a 16.1hh very very dark bay nearly black gelding who is very fine!!! and i mean very fine!!! his papers say that he is 7/8 TB and 1/8 something else but have been told its some sort of pony breed, which would make sense as he gets a big thick woolen coat in winter and has a typical pony glint in his eye and his mannerisms are very much pony like, also he is 16.1hh and takes a 5'9 rug???
And his bum is tiny!!! its like he is a 12hh pony with huge TB leggies!!! will put a pic up and then if someone could give me a clue as to what pony type he may be!!! or if in fact it is pony or something completely different!!!
sorry the pics are a bit rubbish!!!

Once you get down to only an 1/8 it is nigh on impossible to tell.
My oldest nag, Peri, is 7/8 TB and 1/8 New Forest Pony, no-one has ever yet guessed right at her pony bit. When she was younger she looked full TB, as she has bulked up with the dressage most folk think she is WB x TB or even full WB.

Hello there,
What are the details of the breeding? Who are the breed papers issued through? If his sire was thoroughbred and the mare not full, she would have been registered in the non-thoroughbred register at weatherbys, and the sire in the GSB.
As you have his papers the parentage breed should be on them. Let us know the details- there are some really good breed registry search engines.

connies are hairy native ponies, might be where he gets his jumping from as connies jump well aswell.
if its only an 8th it going to be hard to tell, but its has to be a bigger pony to get up to 16.1, the one i looked at was 15.3

I'm not sure if they jump a certian way. Legend has it this pony was the best little jumper, second to none. He has a full clip ever 4 weeks!!

I think hes more likely to be a connie because he is fine. My part bred connemara (probably crossed with an arab) looked very much like a little thoroughbred because the breed is influenced by TBs. I agree its near impossible to tell with so small a fraction so you probably will never know. But connies can be hairy mammoths or a light coat :D If Shadow is bonkers and very cheeky - chances are hes a connie :D Thats my logic anyway! Cant believe he takes a 5'9" rug, thats what my 14.2 took!
Bonkers isnt the word, he is completely nuts!!! and sooooo cheeky and fun!!! Last night he got excited about raised trotting poles!!! Now what 15 year old do u know who does that!!! he really lives life to the fullest!!! He is never un cooperative and is generally very happy!!! Maybe it is connie then!!! and he does go from extreemly sleek like silk to very fluffy but with a velvet finish!!!
Yep 5'9 rug, it mad, i had a 6' one for him last year and it was just simply too big, too wide and too long, just drowned him!!! they advertised it as being a small 6' so thats y i didnt get a 5'9!!! :o

my 14hh connie is in a 6ft rug!!! has he got any form of stubborn streak? thats the decideing factor, my connie is always happy and generaly very willing, except when it comes to jumping he has a beautiful jump, but he has been scared jumping before so now he refuses to do it! and boy is he stubborn when he refuses!
