 I cannot believe I did it! AND survived!
Gorgeous horse actually - the nicest I have ridden yet at college. Really responsive to the leg and seat :)
Ground was a long way down though.....

I bet it was fun! How did you get down? I would have needed a ladder.

Getting down not a problem - just had to remember to bend my knees on landing otherwise I would have gone through the surface of the school :p
what kind of horse was it? How did you mount? Not sure of his breeding - I'm guessing a TB X Something Very Large looking at his head and build. He looks like a scaled up, well-built TB - dark bay with a real shark's fin wither and no markings or feather to point towards a Draft X. Maybe TB crossed with ID or Warmblood?
The instructor let me cheat for mounting :p Normally we all get on using a bucket, which is only about a foot high  .....but I got special treatment and used the mounting ramp which is oooo about 4 foot high ;)

I remember when I was about 9 or 10, my RI gave me a lesson on her 17.2 dutch warmblood who was the most well behaved horse I have ever met! I must have looked ridiculous though as my legs didn't reach past the saddle flaps!! I have to confess that these days I'd much rather be on my pony :)

Wow! Bet you're glad you didn't fall off :p
Do you normally ride larger horses or was this a big change?

Wow! Bet you're glad you didn't fall off :p
Do you normally ride larger horses or was this a big change?I ride allsorts from 14hh upwards - but I'm at college doing BHS Stage 1 training at the moment, and they've got some biguns! :D The hardest bit was tacking up  Two of the daytime students had to put the bridle on for me.....

Lovely, first horse I ever rode I couldn't see over his saddle (I'm 6'2" :D ) but the nicest most tolerant horse you could ride, bearing in mind my complete incompetence at the time. I'm told my face when they brought him out for me was quite something - I believe it went beyond white :o
He also had a brother at the yard that was apparently a total nutjob, never rode him ;)
Glad you enjoyed it, you do get a lovely view from up there.
Vince
PS Cured any fear of heoghts on a horse as everything since has been smaller :D

Glad you had a great time riding this horse. I've been told about it and had been told its name by one of the girls on my yard who is in the full time course. Just cant remember what it was called :o

:p ok,but did you mount from the ground.
I had been practising just for emergency sake mounting a 18.3 and 18.2 from the ground,no problem :) rode them regular.
The 18.2 was very very lively, but the views from 'up' there made it worth while,I think :D
