They were considered rare not so very long ago and Spain banned their export for some years.
They are now becoming less rare and there are quite a few breeders and importers in the UK.
I think they are wonderful horses and I would really like to own one, or maybe even a Lusitano.
There is lots of stuff on the net on Andalucians, try doing a google search.

My friend has just bought an Andalusian or more correctly a PRE - Pura Raza Espanol. She got him from a stud around the Carlisle area which breeds them, although he was actually imported from Spain.

To run a Stud wth any horse requires much thought, time, money and much Equine knowledge.
The Andalucian is a very intelligent breed of horse and requires much patience and understanding when handled/schooled.
I speak mostly from what other Andy owners have told me and from watching them school their steeds and my own observation. All of which follow Classical Training principles which is very much in the blood of the Andy !!
Indeed this breed is beoming more popular and bredders/dealers are popping up here and there. But, there is risks. Some are not true Andy's.
Just out of curiosity, why do you want to run an Andy stud? To provide quality bred and schooled andys for sale?
All in all, I wish you the best of luck in working towards your dream! The Andalucian is truly a magnificent breed and although I have had chance to handle and watch the breed, I have yet to have the pleasure of riding a classically trained one! :p

Your very lucky to live so near to El Caballo de Espange! I visited there early this year and it took ages to get there but was worth the visit! Yuor Avatar looks to be a coloured Cob, SNAP! I have one too, do you train classically?

Peter's horses are gorgeous, if you get a chance to see him ride at a demo, grab it :).
I have an Andalusian gelding, Prieto. This is a photo of him looking rather muddy (you can just about make out Harve too :) ). They're generally not "easy" horses and can easily be misunderstood, as they are usually very intelligent and sensitive. I love Lusitano horses too and hope to visit Portugal again soon (fingers crossed for the new year, Maria, if you're reading this and I'll email or pm you to catch up).

Which two did you see? One large grey at his demo on the IOW was stunning, I'd have loved to have taken him home with me (the horse that is, not Peter) :p .
Lol, I was a bit far away when I took that picture. These cameraphones aren't all they're cracked up to be :).
This is a slightly better camera pic

That is one stunning mule! How cool would it be to teach a mule to spanish walk and do other classical stuff? Would love that! So is your mule by an Andalusian Giant?

He's not backed yet but mules do dressage in the States and as they can do anything a horse can do (But better and with a sense of humour) I'm sure they can do it!:)

Are you sure the sense of humour isn't an Andalusian thing, coz Pri definitely has one :D .
Yes, Torny, we do have a classical approach to riding and schooling. We're just getting there in a bit of a roundabout way due to his past issues :). Clicker training has really helped with his attitude.

Didn't they have African Horse sickness for a while which stopped the export of Iberians??

I am also an andalucian fan - after all friesians have a good bit of andi blood and thier hair gene! I've seen Peters horses, he did a demo for me and my sister, we have a friesian gelding with him at the moment, he certainly is good with his horses! One of the women who works with Peter has a red dun andalucian - droooool! She's thinking of crossing it with one of our friesians in the future - can't wait to see the result! ( friesian x andalucian is called a Warlander - how cool does that sound!!):D :D

I saw a highland x andulusian foal for sale( last year) for £600 must be a bargain!
there is an andulusian advertised in my local adtrader this week .I wish i was in the market for a horse as i would definately go and have a look at it! there is also a friesan x cob which looks stunning!
dunno if i would be good enough to ride it as they always give me the impression of being quite bouncy?
