Had big argument with daughter today, her and a friend sat in our caravan all day, waiting for the rain to stop so they could ride as they dont like getting wet anymore, when it did stop they did a quick 5 min ride to village shop for sweets, then raced back before the rain started again, i was fuming, no excuse about saddles getting ruined got synthetics for times of year like this, but the other annoying thing was i cleaned leather saddles and bridles this week, they could have done it!!!! kids why do we have them.

The only time my lessons got cancelld were if the school was flooded or frozen or there was a blizzard. If we wanted to cancel, we payed anyway - so we never cancelled ;). Hope you can convince them they won't disolve soon.....

I ride in the rain all the time. I just make sure Captain is rugged/dry if I want to ride him. Oh and I have ridden in a blizzard. Last Winter on a solo hack I was so nervous, singing to my hearts content. When suddenly I turned around to go home and realised I was riding in appauling weather conditions and felt guilty. Sorry Captain but you are so moreish!!! :D Friends drove at the side of me and asked if I was MAD.

At my old RS we had to ride whatever the weather. Remember spending one lesson working on a tiny circle they had dug out from the snow, felt completely dizzy by the end of the lesson! Like others, you had to pay if you cancelled. I have got a bit soft now though as my new school takes the majority of the lessons in the huge indoor school. Think I am more apprehensive about riding in strong wind rather than the rain. Good luck convincing them for next time :D

Well, I don't mind the rain and I'm ok in wind, but NOT together. There is just no fun in riding in horizontal rain, stinging your face, dribbling down your neck, not being able to see a darn thing and nearly getting blown off your horse! :D

Dont mind a bit of rain but if it's torrential I dont set off in it, got a nice flouresent rain cover which goes over both of us so we are both covered, thing is it depends on how wet Po is when I fetch him in.

When I was working I rode in any weather. Now I can ride when I want I just ride when it's fine. Fair weather rider - that's me. :D

i don't mind vertical rain, so long as I've got my waterproofs on! but wind? no thanks (makes me ratty, so I hate to thing what it would do to the horse!)

I am more than happy to hack in the rain but am not so fond of schooling. Tend to find Arnie and I are in a foul mood before we start and its not much fun for either of us. I like schooling to be enjoyable for us both, so as to keep his enthusiasm, and heavy rain just doesn't really allow for this.
Also, as I usually ride at 6pm at night, getting a soggy wet horse can be a pain to put to bed in the winter. Have to faff around with rugs and come back later to swap them over when he's dried etc. I always use a rain sheet but still end up with a wet, steamy horse.

I ride in most weathers, I actually enjoy riding in the rain (as long as I have my coat on). If it is a choice between riding in the rain, or not riding then I will choose to ride every time. The only weathers I don't ride in are ice or thunder and lightening.

I ride rain or shine ! (although i prefer shine !). I prefer to get wet and for my horse to have a good ride rather than him do nothing ! :):D:):D:)

I dont mind but it does kinda make me laugh when rain starts dripping off the peak of my hat onto my nose!! :D
Harry doesnt like it and sulks but I make him be macho and put up with it (until we get behind closed doors and I make a big fat fuss of him and dry him and cuddle him warm!!)

Went out last year in winter and temp was just starting to drop, by the time I came back and onto the lane it was a skating rink, he was getting to the point of all four legs sliding out sideways which was rather disconcerting, didn't help with the trial bike behind us revving the lasted thing, he hates them at best of times.

My first school had the luxury of an inside arena - when they moved on and I had to also, I asked at what is now my current school, 'have you got an indoor arena?' the redoubtable lady owner said 'Horses can stand it - so can you'. Ulp! Used to extremes of weather and wrapping up in layers on the bike, so main discomfort of riding horses in the rain is the way the rain plays havoc with my glasees/vision. Might consider wearing goggles.
The other trick is to have something dry to change into afterwards. Even if that then gets wet on the way home on the bike it is a psychological lift at the time.

I carry on regardless. Full waterproofs for rain, for horse and rider, and provided I can stay in the saddle against the wind I ride anyway. It gets a bit much when I empty the rain out of my boots when I take them off!

I dont mind to ride in the rain, but if its road work I would do my best to avoid as sadly alougth driving conditions are bad..people dont slow down, roads become slippy, and stoppping distances increase... However I am a natural boirn worrier!!! :o

The only time my lessons got cancelled were if the school was flooded or frozen or there was a blizzard. If we wanted to cancel, we payed anyway - so we never cancelled ;) Yep, that's the same at both places I take lessons - so as long as we can see the floor of the school , I ride! :D I had to drive home a few weeks ago with my jods soaked through to my pants :o .....it just makes the hot bath afterwards that much better..... :D

it takes me too long to get there to give up if its raining! However a good gust of wind is enough to turn me for home if out hacking because there's so much that can happen to spook / injure the horse that it's just not worth it (& it's really unpleasant!)

I was wondering regarding everyone who does ride in the rain: what type of footing are you riding on?
On my property, I can't ride when it's wet (whether it's raining or not) because it's all clay. So very slippery!:(
At the stable where I teach, we're not allowed to ride in the rain but we do have the luxery of an indoor arena.
Before I met my husband, I used to ride rain or shine because our property's soil was sand. It was great!

I don't mind riding in a bit of drizzle but not a big down pour, also I will only ride if the ground isn't too slippery. :o

I think you lot are amazing:D I have to admit I don't ride in the rain, unless I'm caught when out. I am a proper fair weather rider. Don't mind wind, and have ridden in some quite extreme blowy weather, but don't like getting wet. Its probably something to do with the fact that Sen doesn't mind wind at all, but doesn't really like rain. Well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.;)
