Next spring I am planning on sending my mare to a stud. He is a buckskin paint. The question I want to ask is, what would the chances of getting a buckskin paint baby from the two of them? He seems to produce buckskin paints to almost all of his babies. My TWH mare is a black tobiano... only four high white socks and stripe on hip, two tone tail. It will be her first baby, so I don't know what she is dominant for... I kind of hope she will pass on her lightning bolt stripe. Anyways here are some pics.

Babies by him...

He has very VERY good manners to be a stallion. He is voice commanded to "park out" and he doesn't act crazy when a mare in heat comes around. We went out and looked at him and he is in very good condition, well kept, and to top it all off he was a WGC back in his day. My mare has an excellent temperment as well. The two are complimentary, even though my mare is about an inch or so taller, without shoes. I took her weight this evening and she weighs about 1250 lbs. Here is a pic of her (that is if it shows)...

P.S. After the Ten Thousandth time... I finally got the pics to work!

If your mare has two tobiano genes, then the foal will definitely be tobiano. How much white it has is a lottery! If the stallion is not tested homozyous and has thrown solid foals (even a small percentage) then he is probably heterozygous (one tobiano gene).

So; if your mare and the stallion both carry one tobiano gene, there's a 25% chance that foal will have no tobiano gene, a 50% chance he'll be heterozygous tobiano, and a 25% chance he'll be homozygous tobiano.

The buckskin is a little more complicated. The stallion has at least one E gene, one A gene, and definitely has only one Cr gene. He has a 50% chance of throwing a dilute baby. If both his base colour genes are E for black, the foal will definitely have a black base. If he has two A genes for bay, the foal will definitely have a bay base. But if he only has one A gene, there's a 50/50 chance of black base - which would not show the cream even if he did pass it on.

If your mare and the stallion both have a hidden e (red or chestnut) gene in there, there's even a 25% chance the foal would have a chestnut base.

In order for the foal to be buckskin, he *must* have a black base (so E from either parent - high chance of that) and also bay - which has to come from dad. If dad has two bay genes, he'll definitely pass bay on; but if he has only one, it's a 50% chance of bay. The foal also needs dad to pass cream on - there's a 50% chance of that too.
